We were so happy to have Debbie Taylor drop by with a generous donation on behalf of the family of Marilyn Mantle. Marilyn was born and raised in Bannockburn, Ontario. Marilyn lived in Marmora for 73 years. She raised three children – Debbie, Rick, and Jamie.

Marilyn’s first teaching job was at Zion School. She was 18 years old teaching in a one room schoolhouse after completing 6 weeks of teacher training in Toronto. Marilyn taught for 40 years at Marmora Public School. Along with her time in the classroom, Marilyn worked for the school board setting up libraries in all the public schools in the county.

Marilyn went overseas and taught in Germany. She returned to Marmora. She was very active in the Marmora community and at St. Paul’s Church.

Marilyn was passionate about literacy and knew the importance of reading in the lives of children and youth.

Marilyn passed on June 28, 2025 in her home of 71 years – just 3 weeks after her 90th birthday. She was much loved by her family, colleagues, and students.
