Every time IRCC announces something, immigration feeds go into full panic mode. Here is a calmer approach.

Before you change your plan, ask three things:

What exactly changed, and where is the official source?

Does this apply to your specific pathway and profile stage?

Do you need to act now, or is this something to monitor?

Most updates affect a specific group, not every applicant. Reading a headline is not the same as grasping the policy.

If you want a straightforward checklist for how to verify and respond to IRCC updates responsibly, comment "UPDATE" below and we will send it your way.

If you are currently in Canada on a temporary status with a work permit, study permit, or visitor record, one of the most important things you can do right now is check your expiry date.

Remaining in Canada beyond your authorized period, even unintentionally, is considered an immigration violation. It can affect your eligibility for future permits, your permanent residence application, and in some cases your ability to return to Canada after leaving.

The good news: in most cases, action taken before your status expires can protect your record entirely. Options include applying for an extension, changing your status to a different category, or transitioning toward permanent residence if you qualify.

Great North Immigration Inc. handles extension of status applications and can advise you on the best course of action based on your current situation and long-term goals.

If you have been hoping to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada for an extended visit, there is a recent update worth knowing about.

Canada's Super Visa program, which allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, has updated its income requirements for sponsors, making the program more accessible to a wider range of Canadian families.

The Super Visa has always been one of the most practical options for families separated by borders. With the updated income thresholds now in effect, more Canadians may qualify to sponsor a visit than before.

If you applied previously and were told you did not meet the income requirements, it is worth revisiting your eligibility under the new rules.

Great North Immigration Inc. can assess your eligibility and help you prepare a strong Super Visa application.

Comment SUPERVISA below for a full breakdown of the updated requirements.

There are more online immigration tools and form-filling services available today than ever before. And while they have their place, there is one thing none of them can do.

They cannot advocate for you.

When IRCC has a question about your file, an online service cannot respond. When a document is missing or incorrectly filled out, a form-filling tool will not catch it. When a policy changes mid-application, a software platform will not adjust your strategy.

A Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant does all of these things.

An RCIC reviews your full profile before recommending a pathway. They prepare your application with professional care and catch errors before they become refusals. They represent you officially before Citizenship and Immigration Canada. And when complications arise they respond on your behalf with professional knowledge and accountability.

Great North Immigration Inc. is a fully licensed consultancy. Our clients do not just submit forms. They have representation.

Express Entry in 30 seconds, because you have probably seen the term everywhere and still are not sure how it actually works.

Step 1: Assessment. You find out if you qualify and what your CRS score looks like.

Step 2: Strategy. You figure out which pool, category or provincial option fits your profile.

Step 3: Submission. Your profile goes into the pool and you wait for an Invitation to Apply.

Step 4: Follow-through. You receive your ITA, prepare your full application and submit it accurately.

Each step has its own risks, and skipping the strategy phase is where most errors start.

Comment "EE" and we will send you the next-step resource for Express Entry applicants.

Canada is preparing to make the most significant structural changes to its Express Entry system since the program launched in 2015 and if permanent residence is part of your plan, this development deserves your full attention.

The proposed overhaul touches category-based selection, eligibility criteria, and how draws are structured. Details are still being finalized, but immigration lawyers and consultants across Canada are already reviewing the proposed changes and their implications for candidates currently in the pool.

What this means for you in practical terms: the profile that positions you well under today's rules may need to be adjusted under the new framework. Candidates who understand the changes early and adapt their strategy accordingly will have a meaningful advantage over those who wait.

This is exactly the kind of situation where working with a licensed consultant who is actively monitoring the system makes a real difference to your outcome.

Comment OVERHAUL below and we will explain how the proposed changes could affect your specific Express Entry profile.

Not every person offering immigration help is qualified to give it, and the difference matters more than most people realise.

A licensed RCIC is regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). That means accountability, moral standards and the legal authority to represent you before IRCC.

An unlicensed adviser has none of that. If something goes wrong with your application, there is no recourse.

Before you share a single document with anyone, verify their licence on the CICC public register. It takes two minutes and protects everything that follows.

Submitting your immigration application is a huge milestone. But for many people, the waiting period that follows is the most stressful part of the process, mostly because nobody tells you what is actually happening on the other end.

Here is a plain-language breakdown of every stage:
Stage 1 — Acknowledgement of Receipt. IRCC confirms your application is in the queue and assigns it a file number. Processing times begin from this point.
Stage 2 — Biometrics and Medical. Depending on your application type and country of origin, you may be asked to complete biometrics and a medical examination if these were not already submitted.
Stage 3 — Background Checks. Security screening and criminal record checks are conducted. These can take varying amounts of time depending on your country of citizenship and travel history.
Stage 4 — Decision. IRCC will either approve your application, request additional documents, or issue a refusal with reasons.

When you work with Great North Immigration, you are never left wondering where your file stands. We monitor your application actively and keep you updated at every stage.

Canada's first Express Entry trades draw of 2026 just happened and if you work in a skilled trade, this is the update you have been waiting for.

On April 2, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued 3,000 invitations to apply for permanent residence specifically targeting candidates in trades occupations. The CRS cutoff came in at 477, a number that puts permanent residence within reach for a significant number of qualified tradespeople.

This is the first trades draw since September 2025. The category has been expanded and modified for 2026, with some occupations added and others removed. The eligible trades now cover a specific list of 25 occupations and knowing whether your NOC code qualifies is the first step.

If you are a carpenter, plumber, electrician, welder, or work in another skilled trade and have been considering Canadian permanent residence, this draw is a clear signal that the system is actively looking for people like you.

Comment TRADES below and we will tell you whether your occupation qualifies and what your next step should be.

Already in Canada on a temporary permit? Your path to permanent residence may already be underway.

Temporary to permanent transitions are one of the most common immigration routes right now, but the timing depends heavily on your status and which program fits your profile.

Whether you are on a study permit, work permit or bridging status, the next step is knowing where you stand before your situation changes.

Comment "ASSESS" and we will reply with the eligibility assessment link so you can start with a clear picture.

If you are currently in Canada on a work permit or other temporary status, this update is directly relevant to you.

Canada has opened a new Temporary Resident to Permanent Residence pathway targeting up to 33,000 workers already living and working in the country. This is a dedicated route designed to convert temporary status into permanent residence without requiring candidates to start the full immigration process from scratch.

This kind of pathway does not stay open indefinitely. Spots are capped, eligibility requirements apply, and the window for applications is limited.
If you are on a work permit, a post-graduation work permit, or another temporary status and have been wondering whether permanent residence is within reach the answer right now may be yes.

The most important thing you can do is get a professional assessment of your eligibility before this window closes.

Comment TRPR below and we will review what this pathway means for your specific situation.
