Big Express Entry news: job offers count again, and no LMIA is needed 🇨🇦

IRCC announced today that starting November 3, 2026, Express Entry candidates can earn extra CRS points for:

✅ A qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation: 50, 70 or 100 points
✅ Canadian work experience in a high-wage occupation: a bonus of 20, 40 or 70 points, on top of up to 80 points for duration

You receive whichever route gives you more points. They aren’t combined, and the maximum is 150.

Also changing:
🔹 No LMIA is required for job offer points or for job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker and Skilled Trades programs
🔹 Your level depends on your occupation’s national median wage, not your own salary
🔹 Officers will closely check that every job offer is genuine

Important enforcement update for immigration practitioners and the communities we serve.

The Canada Border Services Agency has confirmed 484 immigration investigations opened nationwide in connection with extortion-related criminal activity, 196 of them in the Greater Toronto Area alone. As of June 18, 139 removal orders have been issued and 81 individuals removed from Canada.

This is a significant and welcome enforcement action. A few observations worth noting for those who work in this space:

Inadmissibility on grounds of serious criminality and organised crime is a powerful tool, and CBSA is clearly deploying it. The agency's collaboration with Peel Regional Police, the RCMP, and provincial task forces reflects exactly how immigration enforcement is meant to work when foreign nationals exploit a pathway into this country to commit violent crimes.

For our South Asian communities in Brampton, Mississauga, Surrey, and beyond, communities that have borne the brunt of this extortion wave, this is a message that the system can and does respond.

Immigration is a privilege, not a right. Those who use their presence in Canada to threaten, extort, and endanger others will and should face its consequences, including removal.

The United States just fundamentally changed the rules for over 800,000 people — mid-process.

On Friday, USCIS issued a memo stating that most foreigners seeking green cards will now be required to leave the US and apply from their home countries. Adjustment of status — the process that allowed people already lawfully in the US to obtain permanent residence without departing — will be granted only in "extraordinary circumstances."

Let that sink in.

In 2024 alone, more than 820,000 green cards were approved through adjustment of status. That is not a policy footnote. That is the primary pathway used by H-1B workers, students, spouses of US citizens, and employer-sponsored professionals who have built their lives in the United States — often for years.

What does this mean in practice?

→ A spouse of a US citizen who entered on a valid visa and filed their green card application could now be required to return to their home country — and wait.

→ A skilled foreign worker on an H-1B whose employer-sponsored green card petition is approved may face consular processing abroad, adding months or years to a process already measured in years.

→ Consulates around the world — already under significant backlogs — will be asked to absorb hundreds of thousands of new files. Processing times will lengthen. Family separations will follow.

This is not a minor procedural adjustment. It is a structural dismantling of a pathway that has functioned for decades.
