ONTARIO RENTAL RULES ARE CHANGING 🏡

Beginning September 21, 2026, several changes to Ontario’s Residential Tenancies Act will take effect, impacting both landlords and tenants.

Among the changes are new rules surrounding non-payment of rent, persistent late payments, certain eviction hearings and the postponement of eviction orders.

One important change: the non-payment notice period will be shortened from 14 days to 7 days. This does not mean a tenant can automatically be evicted after seven days. The proper Landlord and Tenant Board process still applies.

Whether you’re a landlord, tenant or considering an investment property, staying informed about changes to Ontario’s rental rules is important.
