“I need a contract, let me get [enter your AI chatbot of choice] to draft one for me!”

Do yourself and your business a great big favour: don’t. AI will generate what you want it to generate. It doesn’t mean it is any good, let alone valid! It is not legal advice. It is far from a good substitute; heck it is not even a bad substitute! It is as real as that photo of me taken this morning!!

In fact, dig this, I asked AI if a person should rely on AI for legal advice and it said: “Relying on public AI platforms for serious legal decisions introduces severe risks”. Believe AI on that point!!!

Sometimes, being a lawyer is like… being a wrestler. Why? Because sometimes justice is not given; it is fought for, argued for, and defended. Lawyers stand between the powerful and the powerless, between the haves and have nots, between “big brother” and the average person… Often, these legal fights are complicated and with many moving parts. Lawyers fight not for glory, but because someone must stand up and for their client for what's right.
PS – Lawyers don’t really fight-fight. The process is remarkably civil and subject to rules and procedure. Still – I do have some "lucha libre" masks!!!

Both demand patience, discipline, and the ability to see several steps ahead. One misstep can shift the entire outcome—precision and planning are essential.

Sometimes being a lawyer is like … a visit to the optometrist! A lawyer needs to adapt and view things through different lenses. Document review, client consultation, witness preparation, Court attendance, everything requires a different lens to see things differently and from a different perspective. A lawyer cannot be one-dimensional. One fixed viewpoint misses nuances. A lawyer has to change focus and switch those lenses. Versatility is not optional.

Sometimes being a lawyer is like…. being the Devil’s Advocate. Every client has their case with their story. Their position might be unpopular or run against a commonly held viewpoint. Lawyers often argue such positions. We also test the truth through opposition (the adversarial nature of litigation). Like history’s devil’s advocate, lawyers sharpen justice by challenging it. Uncomfortable? Sometimes. Essential? Absolutely. That’s the job: fighting for fairness, one argument at a time.

Sometimes being a lawyer is like …. being Sherlock Holmes! You have to look for clues. You have to build a case, often from scattered pieces of evidence (witness testimony, letters, Emails, financial records, etc.). You build a case and test if it will stand to scrutiny. How will the opponent think? How will a judge view the case? You have to pay attention to detail, read between the lines... What are the strengths and weaknesses of the case?!
