Getting married? It's one of the most important decisions you ever make.

A marriage contract (sometimes called a prenup) lets you and your partner decide in advance how things would be handled if you ever separated. It’s about clarity, protection, and making informed choices together.

In this video, we explain why more couples are considering marriage contracts and how they can actually reduce stress down the road.

If you or someone you know is planning a wedding, this is worth a watch.

Why Having a Will is Crucial

At Wilhelm Family Law, we understand that planning for the future can feel overwhelming, but one key step you should never overlook is having a Will. Without it, your assets may not be distributed the way you intend, and your loved ones could face unnecessary legal complications.

When you die without a Will the law decides how your property and assets are divided. This often leads to outcomes that may not reflect your true wishes.

For example:

• Spouses: While your spouse may receive a portion of your estate, the division can be complicated depending on your assets, debts, and whether you have children. The default rules may not prioritize your spouse's needs in the way you would have hoped.

• Minor Children: If you have young children, dying without a Will can leave critical decisions (like guardianship) to the courts. Without a legally designated guardian, the court could appoint someone you wouldn’t have chosen, or the process could be delayed, leaving your children in limbo.

Take control of your legacy today. Having a Will ensures your assets are distributed according to your wishes, your spouse is properly provided for, and your children’s future is secured.

Need help with your estate plan? We’re here to guide you through the process with care and expertise.

Unlocking the Power of Collaboration in Family Law

At Wilhelm Family Law, we believe that divorce and family law matters don’t always have to be about conflict and courtroom battles. Instead, we champion the approach of Collaborative Law, where the focus is on cooperation, transparency, and mutual respect.

What is Collaborative Law?

Collaborative Law is a legal process designed to resolve family disputes without the need for litigation. By working together with both parties and their lawyers, we create a safe environment for open communication and problem-solving. The goal is to reach a fair, amicable settlement that works for everyone involved, especially the children.

Why Choose Collaborative Law?

• Less Stressful: The process promotes constructive conversations rather than adversarial tactics.

• Confidentiality: All discussions are kept private, which protects your family’s privacy.

• Control & Flexibility: You have more say in the outcome rather than leaving it up to a judge.

• Cost-Effective: By avoiding lengthy litigation, you may save time and money.

Collaborative Law is a win-win for families looking to move forward with dignity and respect. At Wilhelm Family Law, we’re proud to offer this innovative and compassionate alternative to traditional divorce and family law proceedings.

If you're looking for a way to resolve family matters without the stress of court battles, let's connect! We’re here to guide you through every step of the collaborative process.
