The Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Ahluwalia continues to shape how the law recognizes intimate partner violence, including coercive and controlling behaviour that extends beyond physical abuse.

The decision recognizes that patterns of intimidation, isolation, surveillance, manipulation, and financial control can have profound impacts on a person’s dignity, autonomy, and equality within a relationship.

Bayly Guslits, a family lawyer at Harrison Pensa, examines the decision and the new tort of intimate partner violence in Canadian law. Read more: https://www.harrisonpensa.com/supreme-court-recognizes-new-tort-for-intimate-partner-violence/

Harrison Pensa personal injury lawyers Andy Rady and Chris Nicolis joined our injury and litigation team and friends on the weekend to take part in the 15th Annual Mike’s Superhero Walk for Brain Injury Awareness. ⭐

The 3K community walk honours individuals and families affected by acquired brain injury while helping the Brain Injury Association of London & Region work toward its fundraising goals.

The walk is named after Mike Hamilton, who sustained an acquired brain injury at age 12. In 2012, he walked the 280-kilometer distance from London to Pelee Island to raise awareness.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who participated.

What happens if a business or organization that has your personal information experiences a privacy breach?

Canton, a technology and privacy lawyer at Harrison Pensa, explains how that assessment works, what factors are considered, and why some breaches must be reported while others may not.

Learn how Canadian organizations assess Real Risk of Significant Harm (RROSH) under PIPEDA and determine when privacy breaches must be reported and disclosed.
