Celebrating – In 1954, Violet King became the first black woman lawyer to practice law in Canada after she was admitted to the Alberta Bar.

King practised criminal law in Calgary as well as worked for the federal department of citizenship and immigration in Ottawa.

📣She was a trailblazer for Black women in law schools and the legal profession in Canada. Her legacy remains that of resiliency and leadership in the face of countless adversities of her time.
