Can American Records Prove Canadian Citizenship by Descent?
Have a Canadian ancestor? π¨π¦ American records can help support your citizenship-by-descent claim, but they may not be enough on their own.
U.S. birth certificates, marriage records, death records, census records and passports can help prove identity, family relationships and connections between generations.
However, you may still need Canadian or historical records to establish that your ancestor was actually Canadian.
π Remember: Proving your family relationship is different from proving your ancestorβs Canadian citizenship.
If youβre considering a Canadian citizenship by descent application, having the right documents and evidence is essential.
