Under Ontario's Limitations Act, 2002, most civil claims must be filed within two years of the date you knew, or reasonably should have known, that you had a claim.

Missing that window almost always means losing the right to sue, regardless of how strong the case is.

If you are dealing with a breach of contract, unpaid debt, property damage, or another civil dispute, do not assume time is on your side. Speak with a lawyer before the window closes.

Utility companies have legal access rights on many Ontario properties. But those rights are not unlimited.

An easement grants specific access for specific purposes. Work that goes beyond those terms, that causes damage, or that happens without proper notice may be something you can challenge.

Utility companies sometimes cause damage when accessing property under an easement. That can mean disturbed landscaping, broken fencing, cracked driveways, or disrupted drainage.

When that happens, you are not required to simply absorb the cost. Depending on the terms of the easement and the nature of the damage, you may have a claim against the utility company.

Document the damage, do not repair it before getting legal advice, and call a lawyer to understand what your options are.
