Cunningham Swan is growing.

We are pleased to welcome two new Associate Lawyers to our Corporate and Business Law group this week: Sukhpreet Bhogiwal and Tayyaba Saleem.

Sukhpreet brings cross-border legal experience in U.S. immigration and tax law, with bar credentials in both Ontario and Michigan, a combination that adds valuable depth to our Corporate and Business Law group.

Tayyaba comes to us with in-house corporate counsel experience at Grasshopper Energy, a Canadian renewable energy developer, giving her a client-side perspective that will be valuable in her work with businesses.

We are excited to have both of them as part of the team and look forward to the energy and expertise they bring to our clients and the Kingston legal community.

Welcome, Sukhpreet and Tayyaba!

We’re pleased to welcome our summer law students, Hero Aiken, Emma Webb-Mueller, and Jane Goyer.

They are off to a great start and already making quite an impact at the firm, bringing fresh perspective, curiosity, and energy to their work.

We’re always encouraged when students are drawn not only to the work we do, but to the culture behind it: a collegial team, a supportive learning environment, and a strong connection to the Kingston community.

We look forward to supporting Hero, Emma, and Jane as they gain hands-on experience and continue building their legal careers this summer.

Artist Spotlight – May

We’re pleased to feature Canadian landscape painter Thomas Tugnette, whose work will be exhibited in our office throughout the month of May.

Thomas creates pieces that invite stillness and presence. His work is inspired by moments from his youth spent immersed in nature, free from pressure and full of quiet reflection. His waterfall paintings, in particular, offer a space to pause, reset, and simply be.

We’re proud to support local artists and share their work with our community.

We’re proud to spotlight a creative new initiative at the firm, introduced by Suzy and Jenn, that brings the local arts community into our space.

Each month, our main boardroom is transformed into a gallery featuring the work of a local artist, creating an inspiring environment for both our team and our clients.

For April, we’re excited to feature the work of Susanne Langlois, a Kingston-based Canadian artist whose vibrant and peaceful paintings span abstract, botanical still life, and contemporary landscapes.

Susanne has been painting for over 25 years. Her work has been exhibited across Ontario and collected by organizations including Queen’s University and Kingston Economic Development.

We are proud to support and feature local artists while celebrating creativity within our workplace.

Stay tuned as we continue to highlight incredible artists in the months ahead!

Some moments remind us that a workplace is more than just work. It is a community.

Karen, one of our incredible Law Clerks, could use a little extra support right now, and our Fighting Swans Hockey team wanted to make sure she felt the love from the ice as well as from the entire office.

We are all thinking of you and sending our very best wishes. Your team is behind you every step of the way.

We’re proud to highlight the incredible work of our Articling Students, Julia, Julia, and Liam, who recently delivered an insightful presentation to our team: “Indigenous Context: An Overview of the Application of Indigenous Law to Various Practice Areas of Our Firm.”

Their presentation was thoughtful, engaging, and deeply informative. They explored how Indigenous law intersects with different areas of our practice, helping all of us broaden our understanding and consider how these perspectives shape the legal landscape.

It was clear how much preparation and care went into their work. They presented with confidence, sparked meaningful discussion, and left us all with valuable insights to carry forward in our practice.

A big thank you to Julia, Julia, and Liam for their excellent work and for contributing to an important and ongoing conversation within the legal profession.

Our lawyers recently stepped away from the office to attend a retreat in Montebello.

It was valuable time spent planning, collaborating, and strengthening our shared vision for the year ahead, along with a well-earned opportunity to recharge.

Between strategy sessions and meaningful conversations, there was even some time on the curling rink, a reminder that teamwork extends beyond the boardroom.

Time away like this allows us to reconnect as colleagues so we can continue delivering thoughtful, focused service to our clients.
