Sullivan is a Mediator (invited into the Canadian Academy of Distinguished Neutrals: https://ontariomediators.org/joseph-sullivan) and Qualified Arbitrator as recognized by the ADR Institute of Canada. I have been mediating civil litigation disputes for many years, including personal injury, commercial and employment matters, construction lien & estate matters. I am also a Qualified Arbitrator as
recognized by the ADR Institute of Canada. I have been a member of the Ontario Bar for 37 years. I am a Past President of the Hamilton Law Association and a former Regional Bencher of The Law Society of Upper Canada. I was born and raised in Hamilton and called to the Bar in 1984. I became a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation in 1992. I have co-chaired two of Hamilton’s main continuing legal education conferences for over 20 years. I have been trusted by plaintiffs and defendants and their counsel for well over 30 years in litigation and mediation matters. I fully engage in the mediation process, coupling knowledge of the law until we reach a mutually beneficial settlement. Complex multi-party mediations are a specialty. Counsel from all over Ontario have requested that I mediate their cases, from Ottawa to Windsor and to the north. Having litigated cases from both sides of the Bar, I can communicate clearly the risks of litigation and the rewards of a mediated settlement.
