Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, s. 182(2) requires drivers to obey the directions or instructions shown on prescribed traffic signs. Failing to comply can result in a disobey sign charge.

For a regular Part I disobey-sign ticket:
- Total Payable: $110
- Demerit Points: 2 (upon conviction)

A disobey sign charge can arise when a driver fails to comply with a traffic sign governed by the Highway Traffic Act. The exact circumstances of the alleged offence will determine whether the charge is supported by the evidence.

If you choose to challenge the charge, you have the right to request disclosure from the prosecutor and review the evidence against you.

With both options, you may have the opportunity to discuss your case with the prosecutor before your matter is decided.

If a resolution cannot be reached, your matter can still proceed to trial.

One important point many people don't know is that you can also request disclosure in either process.

Disclosure may include the officer's notes and other relevant evidence, allowing you to better understand the case against you and prepare your defence.

Choosing the right option depends on your circumstances and the outcome you're hoping to achieve.

Before making a decision, it's important to understand what each option involves.

If you've received a traffic ticket anywhere in Ontario, don't assume paying the fine is your only choice. Having your case reviewed may help you better understand your legal options before making a decision.

If you've received a Part I Offence Notice (a regular traffic ticket) in Ontario, you generally have 15 days from the date you were served with the ticket to respond.

Depending on the options available on your ticket, you may be able to:
▫️ Pay the Fine
▫️ Request an Early Resolution Meeting
▫️ Request a Trial

Ignoring the deadline can lead to additional fees and other legal consequences.

Before making a decision, it's important to understand your options and how each choice could affect your driving record, insurance, and future.

Every case is different. Having your ticket reviewed can help you better understand your legal options before deciding how to proceed.

Receiving a summons can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to face the court process alone.

In many Provincial Offences Act cases, a licensed paralegal can appear in court on your behalf. That may mean you don't have to attend court yourself, saving you time, stress, and time away from work.
If you've received a summons, it's important to act promptly.

Ignoring a summons can have serious consequences, including additional charges, a warrant being issued in some circumstances, and increased legal complications.

Before making any decisions, it's important to understand:
▫️ What you're charged with.
▫️ Your legal options.
▫️ Whether a licensed paralegal can represent you in court.
▫️ The deadlines that apply to your case.

Every case is different. Having your matter reviewed can help you better understand your options and decide on the best course of action.
