We get this question constantly, at open houses, over coffee, from friends who are just starting to think about buying: how much do you actually need to make to buy a home in Halifax? 💸

Here's a simple way to estimate it. Take the home price and divide by four.

That accounts for a minimum down payment of 5% and today's mortgage rates. It won't be exact, but it gives you a real starting point.

$400,000 home: around $100,000 in household income
$600,000 home, roughly the current HRM average: around $150,000
$800,000 home: around $200,000

Your actual number depends on your down payment, your rate, your other debts, and the lender you work with. This just gives you a place to start before you fall for a house you can't get approved for.

We just sold 6 Stevens Road in Dartmouth, and our sellers could not be happier 🔥🏠
