Every time.
Buyers, this is your reminder not to get too distracted by “cute.”
Fresh paint, trendy lighting, new hardware, and styled shelves can make a home feel exciting in photos… but they don’t tell you what’s happening behind the walls, under the roof, or around the foundation.
When you’re walking through a home, ask yourself:
- Is this home well maintained?
- Are the big-ticket items in good shape?
- Does anything feel like it was quickly covered up?
- Are the updates cosmetic, functional, or both?
Sellers, this one matters for you too.
In today’s market, buyers are paying attention. A pretty home may get clicks, but a solid, well-maintained home is what builds confidence.
Before you pour money into finishing touches, look at the things buyers will actually care about once they slow down and look closer:
The roof. The windows. The furnace. The electrical. The plumbing. The signs of moisture. The general care and maintenance.
Style can help your home shine. But substance is what helps buyers feel safe making an offer.
A dated home with pride of ownership will often feel like a better opportunity than a trendy home that leaves people wondering what else is going on.
Pretty is nice. Solid sells.
