Desillus Solutions Inc. was pleased to be part of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) 100th Anniversary celebrations in Ottawa and to participate in the IP Roundtable with Lunch on September 18.

The roundtable brought together IP professionals from various law firms and representatives from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) for an engaging discussion on “Best Practices in Industrial Design Applications.”

The session was particularly valuable for Desillus, given our work supporting IP professionals, patent agents, attorneys, and innovators with industrial design and patent drawing illustration services. The discussion provided an excellent opportunity to exchange practical insights, share experiences, and gain different perspectives on industrial design applications and practices.

A sincere thank you to Jean-Charles Grégoire for leading the roundtable and facilitating such an insightful and engaging discussion.

Our thanks also go to fellow IPIC members and professionals — Jean Lee, Jennifer Ponton, Stephano Salani, Curtis Behmann, and Robert E. Mitchell C.M. — for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives and for contributing to such a valuable discussion.

It was a truly fantastic experience attending the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) 2026 centennial celebration in Ottawa! It was wonderful catching up and meeting with so many familiar faces, and equally exciting to connect with new peers and professionals across the industry.
A huge highlight was Friday night's amazing Gala evening; the food was absolutely delicious, and the decorations were spectacular!
A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible people working behind the scenes to make this milestone event run so smoothly. Between the vibrant networking and the immense learning from attending various committee and educational meetings, I am returning with so much inspiration.

IPIC2026 is a landmark gathering of Canada’s IP community, bringing together professionals from law firms, industry, government, and the judiciary for three days of knowledge sharing, networking, and discussions on the evolving landscape of intellectual property. We look forward to being part of this historic Centennial celebration and connecting with fellow IP professionals.

The new patent application from the company shows a swingarm that looks identical to the design seen on the Concept RR and the prototypes spied at the Nürburgring, with a design that’s much more enclosed than the current S1000RR/M1000RR swingarm.

It explains that the new design is made using a rheocasting process, where the metal is ‘electromagnetically kneaded’ to reach a semisolid state that the patent explains has a texture like cold ice cream. Once in that state it’s pressed into a die or mould. The advantage is that this process allows the use of particularly thin walls, under 3.5mm thick, while retaining the desired level of rigidity and strength.

The patent shows that the swingarm is made from two main castings, the left and righthand sides, which are cast with strategically placed strengthening ribs on their inner surfaces and welded together to form the main swingarm structure. Additional panels are then welded into place on the inside to cover the rib structure.

His Novel Artificial Electronic Nose combines air sampling, chemical analysis, and AI recognition. The system could add chemical detection to airport baggage checks without opening luggage.

Hsu, a student at Kang Chiao International School, designed the platform for use behind X-ray baggage scanners. The system samples air escaping from luggage and studies its chemical signatures.

Gas chromatography mass spectrometry then works with AI based odor recognition technology. The approach could help identify drugs, prohibited food products, and other dangerous substances.

Hsu said the invention could help stop pork products linked to African swine fever. He also highlighted its possible use against fentanyl trafficking at US borders.

Jury chairman Amin Ghafooripour said the award recognized more than Hsu's young age. He said judges saw practical value in the invention and remembered its strong impact.

The invention could give airport security another detection layer alongside X-ray screening. X-ray systems reveal objects, while chemical sensing could provide additional clues about suspicious contents.

Hsu's achievement also came during a record festival run for Taiwanese inventors. Taiwan secured 24 gold medals, eight silver medals, and one bronze across 35 entries. The results marked Taiwan's highest gold medal count since joining SVIIF in 2018.

The electronic nose remains an award winning invention rather than a confirmed airport deployment. Further testing would need to assess accuracy, false alarms, airflow conditions, and high volume screening.

Bambu Lab could be working on an automatic printhead changing system. This is suggested by three patent applications filed by Bambu's parent company, Shenzhen Tuozhu Technology, with the Chinese patent office on June 30, 2026, and published on August 14, 2026.

Two of the three applications, CN122560412A and CN122560413A, are titled „Holder and 3D Printer“ and describe how a tool head can independently deposit and retrieve a replaceable printhead. According to both applications, the holder itself consists of a base body and positioning elements that guide the printhead during the process. The tool head initially moves the printhead into an orientation relative to the holder. The printer then moves it in an installation direction, releasing the locking mechanism and depositing it on the holder in the same motion.

The complete application document for CN122560413A provides the crucial detail: deposition and unlocking take place synchronously, while a positioning element holds the printhead along the installation direction so that its position is maintained despite the simultaneous movement.

The new balloon, called Bioloon, is no more expensive than a standard balloon and is easier to blow up, according to the scientists.

Researchers at Imperial College London say standard balloons can take years to break down and can release harmful chemicals.

But their new balloon biodegrades within nine months.

The research was part-funded by a party planner, who wanted to reduce the impact of balloon litter on marine wildlife.

Bioloon starts with the same rubber material but uses a method that links the polymer chains together without harmful additives.

The team said the product would be available commercially within two years.

Melia hopes the material's use could be expanded beyond balloons.
