This Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 1:00pm, the Mayor's Task Force on 30x30 will provide an update to Council on Greater Sudbury's goal to have 30% of our land and water recognized as protected natural areas. Community members are welcome to attend in Council Chambers (Lionel E. “Syed Hussan, executive director of Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, said that in its current form the immigration system keeps most workers from ever achieving the ability to live in Canada on a long-term basis. ‘The people being pushed out are the same people Canada depends on to care for its aging population,’ he said.”

Nearly 40,000 migrant care workers have applied for permanent residency and have been waiting years for an update. Every year, the federal government has extended processing times, leaving many care workers in limbo. While they wait, many are losing their immigration status, putting their permanent residency applications at risk.

At the same time, Canada is facing a growing care crisis. As our population ages, the demand for in-home care, community care, and other care services continues to grow.

The solution is already here. Migrant care workers are already doing this essential work.
