Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations The office of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993.

The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993 to serve as the united political voice for its Member Nations within Treaty No. 6. Its purpose: to serve as the united political voice for its Member Nations of Treaty No. 6. Dedicated to ensuring that the terms, spirit, and intent of Treaty No. 6 are honoured and respected. The right of First Nations to self-determinati

on must be honoured and respected - this includes the right to choose their own government and political structures, and to determine and direct the social, cultural, spiritual, and economic advancement of their people. The Confederacy strives to fulfill its mandates through its primary functions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring legislation's and policies that affect treaty rights
- Assisting the First Nations to develop treaty positions, policies, and programs
- Educating people about treaties, through acting as a clearing house of information
- Conducting workshops and seminars
- Liaising with other organizations concerned with treaty issues

The Chiefs and Elders of the member First Nations have mandated the Confederacy to:
- Advocate, protect, and enhance treaty rights
- Reestablish the bilateral nation-to-nation relationship with the Imperial Crown, as confirmed by treaty
- Lobby the international community, the United Nations, and other International fora for:
- Recognition as nations with the right to self-determination
- Respect for the International status of our treaty
- The establishment of an International Agency to monitor treaty violations
- Promote respect for Mother Earth

Today - August 23 - is the 150th anniversary of Treaty No. 6.

Today and every day is a meaningful opportunity to remind all people in Treaty No. 6 about what Treaty means and why it’s important.

All peoples, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous, are Treaty Peoples. When we live on Treaty Land, we agree to enter into the terms negotiated in good faith by First Nations Peoples.

150 years later, we are still here.

Still gathering. Still dancing. Still singing our songs. Still carrying our languages, our ceremonies, our teachings and our responsibilities to Treaty.

Our Treaty No. 6 150 Year Commemoration came to a powerful close yesterday in Enoch Cree Nation, where we gathered together in celebration at our Pow Wow.

To the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Chiefs and leadership, community members, dancers, singers, drummers, volunteers, staff, partners, sponsors and every person who joined us throughout the week - thank you. These celebrations would not have been possible without the many hands, hearts and communities that came together to make them happen.

This week was more than a commemoration of history. It was a reminder that Treaty No. 6 is not something of the past.

Treaty is living. Treaty is forever.

A look back on Wednesday as our Treaty No. 6 150 celebrations continued.

The day included our event at Fort Edmonton Park, which included a Grand Entry and Treaty No. 6 reenactments while Day 2 of our Cultural Teachings continued at locations across the Edmonton area.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared teachings and helped make the day so special.

It was another great day of gathering, learning and celebrating 150 years of Treaty No. 6.

Dancer registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 11:30 a.m with one grand entry beginning at 12:00 p.m. SHARP!

Yesterday was another incredible day of our Treaty No. 6 150 Year Commemoration, with Cultural Teachings taking place throughout the day at various locations.

Thank you to the facilitators and everyone who joined us and helped make the day so meaningful.

For Doreen Frencheater of Sunchild First Nation, her understanding of Treaty has been passed down from her grandparents. To her family, Treaty means wîtaskîwin – to live together, to share the land.
