Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations The office of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993.

The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993 to serve as the united political voice for its Member Nations within Treaty No. 6. Its purpose: to serve as the united political voice for its Member Nations of Treaty No. 6. Dedicated to ensuring that the terms, spirit, and intent of Treaty No. 6 are honoured and respected. The right of First Nations to self-determination must be honoured and respected - this includes the right to choose their own government and political structures, and to determine and direct the social, cultural, spiritual, and economic advancement of their people. The Confederacy strives to fulfill its mandates through its primary functions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring legislation's and policies that affect treaty rights
- Assisting the First Nations to develop treaty positions, policies, and programs
- Educating people about treaties, through acting as a clearing house of information
- Conducting workshops and seminars
- Liaising with other organizations concerned with treaty issues

The Chiefs and Elders of the member First Nations have mandated the Confederacy to:
- Advocate, protect, and enhance treaty rights
- Reestablish the bilateral nation-to-nation relationship with the Imperial Crown, as confirmed by treaty
- Lobby the international community, the United Nations, and other International fora for:
- Recognition as nations with the right to self-determination
- Respect for the International status of our treaty
- The establishment of an International Agency to monitor treaty violations
- Promote respect for Mother Earth

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta working with the governments of other willing provinces to amend the Canadian Constitution to have provincial governments, and not the federal government, select the justices appointed to provincial King's Bench and Appeal courts?

What is this really asking?
This asks if Alberta should choose judges outside of Canada-wide legal standards.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
Changing how judges are appointed raises questions about how national legal standards and Treaty commitments are upheld.

Who this affects:
This affects how justice works across Alberta.

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring individuals to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate or citizenship card, to vote in an Alberta provincial election?

What is this really asking?
This asks if Alberta should require additional proof beyond standard ID.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
This could lead to people being asked for extra proof based on appearance or assumptions. Many Albertans do not have passports or birth certificates readily available.

Who this affects:

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta charging a reasonable fee or premium to individuals with a non-permanent immigration status living in Alberta for their and their family's use of the health care and education systems?

What is this really asking?
This is asking if newcomers to Canada - including families, workers, and community members - should face additional financial barriers to assessing basic supports.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
Everyone in Treaty No. 6 is a Treaty person regardless of their ethnicity, race, or origin. Treaty is about shared responsibility and making sure people have access to what they need to live well on this land.

Vote No.

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring all individuals with a non-permanent legal immigration status to reside in Alberta for at least 12 months before qualifying for any provincially-funded social support programs?

What is this really asking?
This asks if newcomers should wait a full year before accessing basic assistance.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
Treaty No. 6 establishes a direct relationship between the Nations and the Crown. Delaying access to essential supports raises questions about how Treaty commitments are carried out.

The question: Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law mandating that only Canadian citizens, permanent residents and individuals with an Alberta-approved immigration status will be eligible for provincially-funded programs, such as health care, education and other social services?

What is this really asking?
This question asks if newcomers to Canada and to Alberta should be charged a fee to access essential services related to healthcare, education and social services.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6: Treaty No. 6 includes commitments to health and wellbeing. Changing who can access essential services raises questions about how those commitments would be upheld.
