Olds RCMP warn of fake unpaid ticket text scam.

Olds RCMP are warning residents not to click a link in a fraudulent text message claiming they owe money for an unpaid traffic or parking violation. Police say the message claims to be from “Alberta Registry Services” and threatens extra fees or restrictions on driver’s licence and vehicle registration renewals.

📱 Do not reply
🗑️ Delete the message
✅ Verify fines only through official government channels

Anyone who has already clicked the link or provided information should contact their financial institution immediately and report it to local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

This National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, the Alberta Sheriffs are reminding everyone that impaired driving has serious consequences—and the impact can be life-changing for families and communities.

Last year, Sheriff Highway Patrol members removed 1,164 impaired drivers from Alberta highways.

If you’re planning to drink or use cannabis, make a plan before you go:

• Choose a designated driver
• Call a taxi or rideshare
• Take public transit
• Stay the night

Time to pump the brakes, Strathcona County. The Government of Alberta is increasing traffic fine amounts starting in mid‑March. Fines for common offences will increase by 30%, while fines for high-risk driving offences will rise by 50%. The new rates apply across the entire province, including tickets issued by our local RCMP and Community Peace Officers.

Some examples of the 30% increase include:
📱Distracted driving ($300 increased to $390)
↩️ Unsafe left turn ($162 increased to $211)
◾ Non-compliant window glazing or tinted windows ($81 increased to $105)

Some examples of the 50% increase include:
🏎️ Excessive speeding (speeding 40 or more km/hr over the speed limit. 50km/h over the limit increased from $495 to $744)
🚗 Stunting ($567 increased to $852)

You'll also see increases on tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, careless driving, racing, and more.
