Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, on August 26th announced the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) expansion, increasing the benefits of immigration in the 11 participating communities.
Key changes in PNIP include:
1) expanding the geographic boundaries of some of the participating communities, so more employers can participate
2) expanding the range of job offers available to candidates
3) reducing the amount of settlement funds participants are required to have

Provincial nomination is not in itself the same as a permanent residence, but it can significantly increase your chances of obtaining permanent resident status.

In a recent Express Entry draw held on August 17th the lowest CRS score was 525 points. Which is a pretty high score for an average applicant.
But PNP candidates with Express Entry profiles who receive a nomination get 600 points added to their CRS score.

For example the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) recently issued 120 invitations to apply for the provincial nomination through the Alberta Express Entry Stream to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 473.

In this instance, those who have received provincial nomination from Alberta will now have a minimum overall CRS of 1073, making it highly likely they will receive an ITA from IRCC.
