π¨ IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ENTREPRENEURS β CANADA IMMIGRATION π¨π¦
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced significant changes to Canadaβs business immigration programs under the 2026β2028 Immigration Levels Plan and Canadaβs Talent Attraction Strategy.
πΉ Effective Immediately
β IRCC is no longer accepting new Start-Up Visa (SUV) work permit applications.
β
Only applicants already in Canada may apply to extend an existing SUV work permit.
πΉ Permanent Residence Prioritization
π IRCC will prioritize permanent residence applications for Start-Up Visa applicants already in Canada, subject to available immigration levels.
πΉ Effective December 31, 2025 (11:59 p.m.)
β IRCC will stop accepting new Start-Up Visa (SUV) permanent residence applications.
βοΈ Exception:
Applicants who received a valid commitment certificate in 2025 but have not yet applied may still submit an application.
β IRCC will also stop accepting new SUV commitment certificates.
βΈοΈ The Self-Employed Persons Program remains paused until further notice.
π‘ These measures are intended to manage application backlogs and prepare for a new, targeted pilot program for immigrant entrepreneurs, expected to launch by the end of 2026.
π’ If you are an entrepreneur affected by these changes, it is important to review your options and plan your next steps carefully.
