As of June 14, anyone applying for permanent residence (PR) must submit biometrics, regardless of if they have previously submitted them for a temporary residence permit.

The update to the published policy means that IRCC is returning to pre-pandemic procedures for permanent resident applications. Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC enacted a policy in the Global Case Management System (GCMS) that made it unnecessary for PR applicants to resubmit biometrics if they had submitted them alongside a temporary resident application within the previous 10 years.

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted another all-program Express Entry draw, marking the third consecutive week of such a draw.

A total of 7,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence were issued this time, and that would make a total of 21,000 ITAs in a matter of three weeks.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score has also come down sharply. This time it was 481, the lowest requirement for an all-program draw since the December 23, 2020 draw, where the score was 468.

Canada invites another 7,000 candidates in surprise Express Entry draw

IRCC has just invited candidates in the eighth Express Entry draw of 2023.

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued invitations to apply (ITAs) to 7,000 candidates in an all-program draw, with a minimum CRS score of 484. An all-program draw means candidates are considered from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

This draw size ties the largest-ever all-program draw on March 15, in which 7,000 candidates were also invited. Candidates in that draw had a minimum CRS score of 490. The previous record-high all-program draw came when IRCC invited 5,500 candidates on January 18.

The draw is surprising because it marks the second-consecutive week IRCC has invited Express Entry candidates. Usually, Express Entry draws are bi-weekly. In addition to it being tied for the largest all-program draw ever, the 7,000 ITAs marks the second-largest Express Entry draw size of all-time, behind the record-setting CEC-only draw that took place in February 2021.

03/20/2023

Today, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, announced a new initiative for those with an expired or expiring Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), who will now be able to apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) extension as of April 6, 2023.

The extension will be available to anyone whose PGWP expired in 2022 and who applied for the IRCC’s Open Work Permit extension last year. It will also be available to those whose PGWP is set to expire in 2023.

Those whose legal status in Canada has expired will also be able to apply to restore their status, even if they are outside of the 90-day grace period provided by IRCC. This will allow those individuals the ability to restore their status and get an interim Open Work Permit authorization at the same time, as early as April 6.

Indian Immigration To Canada Has Tripled Since 2013

The number of Indians immigrating to Canada has more than tripled since 2013. The scale of the increase is what one would expect to witness in a refugee situation, not the result of a steady increase in international students and employment-based immigrants.

The data show restrictive immigration policies in the United States, particularly during the Trump administration, have played a significant role in Indians choosing to immigrate to Canada.
