At Kellie Stewart Law, I know that when parents choose communication, respect, and collaboration, children benefit the most.

Even during difficult transitions, working together as co-parents can create stability, reassurance, and a healthier future for your children. Every positive conversation, shared decision, and united effort helps children feel supported, loved, and secure.

Family law is not just about legal outcomes — it’s about protecting the emotional well-being of families and helping parents move forward with dignity and care.

When children see adults choosing cooperation over conflict, everyone wins. 💛

I’m wishing you and your families a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved long weekend. ☀️

Long weekends are about slowing down, spending time with the people who matter most, and enjoying the simple moments that often get missed during busy weeks. Whether you’re heading to the cottage, enjoying time in the community, cheering from the hockey rink, or simply taking a moment to recharge — I hope this weekend brings you happiness and peace.

I am grateful to be part of such an incredible community and thankful for the trust my clients place in me every day. Supporting families, businesses, and individuals across Ottawa is something I never take for granted.

Enjoy the sunshine, support local when you can, and take time to make meaningful memories this weekend. 💛

Happy Long Weekend from Kellie Stewart Law.

SAFETY PLAN..... hoping it will not be needed, but in case it is, some thoughts to consider 🚩

🚩Consult a lawyer or legal aid clinic to discuss the situation. They can help form a plan forward .

🚩Consider changing any service provider for your cell phone or other device that might be accessible by your ex partner .

🚩Get caller ID and block your number when calling out.

🚩Make sure your children’s school or day care centre is aware and has copies of all relevant documents.

🚩Carry a current photo of your ex, partner and your children with you at all times.

🚩 Take extra precautions at work, at home and in the community.

🚩 Tell someone you trust at work what is happening. Develop a safety password that is shared when you are in trouble.

🚩Think about places and patterns that your ex-partner will know about and try to change them - grocery store, lunch stop, coffee shop.

🚩If you feel unsafe walking alone, ask a trusted friend to walk with you

🚩Carry your cell phone in your hand .👋🏼

🚩 Never confront the abuser 🚩

“There is so much to be thankful for.”
Starting my own law firm a little over a year ago was a Herculean task but it got done and I am so proud.

These two incredible daughters are the reason why I persevere and always continue to manage hockey teams and include my girls in all of our community building efforts.

Thank you to all the local business owners out there city of Ottawa who continue to support local girl’s hockey.

Not to mention the ultimate role models over at the thepwhlofficial ottawa charge

Feeling very grateful.
Thank you .

Mother's Day!!
Maybe on the regular schedule, this is Dad's weekend and maybe there is no order or agreement that sets out who has the children, so there may be a thought to keep the child.

Don't do it.

There is no benefit to the child by doing this. This is not child focused.

If they are older, they know what day it is and this is not fair to them.

And not only should the child go to Mom's, how wonderful would it be for you to help your child bring a gift in hand. Nothing huge - just something, or have them make something like a card with a note.

This weekend is not about Dad or Mom - its about teaching and modelling for your child that family is important and family matters. You have the power to teach them this valuable lesson and to demonstrate something wonderful for them.

Happy Mothers Day to all.

"Do Not Rush Anything."

A courtroom is not the place to manage a parenting disagreement.

Court is for determining legal issues.

Disagreements about bedtime routines, screen time, what the children take for school lunch. These are often topics for discussion in separation and can cause conflict when parents disagree.

But not every parenting frustration is a legal issue.

Court is a blunt instrument and the judge does not know your children. You know your children best. And that means you and your former partner are in the best position to find a solution.

Sometimes the most strategic move is not filing the motion.
Separations are hard for everyone.
And finding your footing can take time.

What is your housing situation?
Before you decide to add your partner to the home you bought and have been paying for before you got married, pause and take a breath.

Don't sign anything until you can speak to a lawyer so you can make a fully informed decision.

Title to the matrimonial home matters and can have serious effects in the event of separation.
