Today in Vizzini, a small town of roughly 6000 people, we had the most touching welcome thus far.

Two beautiful ceremonies: the first at the markers commemorating each of the soldiers killed in combat as well as the Italian civilians that lost their lives. The second, after a one kilometre procession into town, to City Hall and then the World War II Memorial. Beautiful words were said by many. After a short visit of the town’s museum highlighting the works of Giovanni V***a, novelist and short story writer, we were invited to a light lunch.

In the evening we drove to Augusta, a small island of over 30 000 inhabitants, we met the most decorated general in Italy, Maurizio Angelo Scardino. We followed the procession led by the General, our Senator Tony Loffreda, the town’s Deputy Mayor and organizer of Operation Husky, Steve Gregory, to the War Memorial for a ceremony in the presence of military officials, bands, historians and more. Augusta has several war heroes and the stories were both heart breaking and touching.

Next stop: Grammichele.
Aujourd'hui, à Vizzini, une petite ville d'environ 6000 habitants, nous avons eu l'accueil le plus touchant jusqu'à présent.

Deux belles cérémonies: la première aux bornes commémorant chacun des soldats tués en combat ainsi que les civils italiens qui ont perdu la vie. La seconde, après une procession d'un kilomètre, nous nous sommes rendus à l'hôtel de ville et au parc commémoratif à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. De belles paroles ont été dites par beaucoup. Après une courte visite du musée de la ville mettant en lumière l'œuvre de Giovanni V***a, romancier et nouvelliste, nous avons été invités à un léger dîner.

Dans la soirée, nous sommes allés à Augusta, une petite île de 30 000 habitants, où nous avons rencontré le général le plus décoré d'Italie, Maurizio Angelo Scardino. Nous avons suivi le cortège mené par le général, notre sénateur Tony Loffreda, l'adjoint au maire de la ville et l’organisateur de l'opération Husky,
Steve Gregory, jusqu'au Mémorial de la guerre pour une cérémonie en présence d'officiels militaires, de musiques, d'historiens et plus encore. Augusta a plusieurs héros de guerre et les histoires étaient autant déchirantes que touchantes.

Yesterday we commemorated the Canadian soldiers that lost their lives in Giarratana. The mayor provided us with a police es**rt to the site where we had a solemn ceremony in the presence of the Mayor, town and church officials and of course the entire team representing Operation Husky. The Mayor hosted a lunch full of Sicilian culinary delights.

In Ragusa we were invited by his Excellency the Prefetto Giuseppe Ranieri to his palatial home and office for a tour of several meeting rooms with beautiful Frescos depicting historical moments in Italy’s history.

For supper, we were invited to a villa where Steve Gregory, the organizer of this event, and the marchers are staying. Volunteer chef Bruce offered us an amazing meal with a refreshing lemon custard dessert that was particularly loved by our Senator Tony Lofredda.

We now leave Ragusa to go to Vizzini.

Hier, nous avons commémoré les soldats canadiens qui ont perdu la vie à Giarratana. Le maire nous a fourni une es**rte policière à la cérémonie solennelle en présence du maire, des responsables de la ville et de l’église ainsi que toute l’équipe représentant l’opération Husky. Le maire a organisé un dîner plein de délices culinaires siciliens.

À Ragusa,nous avons été invités par son excellence le Prefetto, Giuseppe Ranieri, dans sa luxueuse demeure et bureau pour une visite de plusieurs salles de réunions avec de belles fresques représentant des moments historiques de l’Italie.

Pour le souper, nous avons été invités à une villa où logent Steve Gregory, l’organisateur de cet événement, et les marcheurs. Le chef bénévole, Bruce, nous a servi un repas incroyable avec un dessert rafraîchissant à la crème de citron qui a été particulièrement apprécié par notre sénateur Tony Loffreda.

Aujourd’hui, nous quittons Ragusa pour aller à Vizzini.

Last night town officials of Ragusa welcomed us at the Monument in Honour of Fallen Soldiers. It was an emotional moment to lay the wreath on behalf of Canadians along side the Honorable Senator Tony Loffreda.

We spoke to the locals and learned of war time stories. We met a 95 year old woman who told us that the women used the fabric of the Canadian parachutes left on the ground to sew dresses and outfits for their families.

Incredible stories and so many touching moments.

Hier soir, les officiers de la ville de Ragusa nous ont accueillis au monument des soldats tombés. Ce fut un moment émouvant de déposer la couronne au nom des Canadiens ensemble avec honorable sénateur Tony Loffreda.

Nous avons parlé aux habitants et appris des histoires de temps de guerre. Nous avons rencontré une femme de 95 ans qui nous a racontée que les femmes utilisaient le tissu des parachutes canadiens laissé au sol pour coudre des robes et des tenues pour leurs familles.

Des histoires incroyables et des moments très touchants.

Le 13 octobre 2021, l'Association du Barreau du Québec a annoncé les noms des avocats qui ont reçu le titre d'Avocat Émérite pour l'année 2021. Abréviation du latin Advocatus Emeritus, la mention honorifique Ad. E. s'ajoute après le nom du récipiendaire. Ce titre est attribué aux membres dont le parcours professionnel s'est distingué tant pour leur contribution professionnelle que pour leur implication sociale et communautaire.

On October 13, 2021, the Quebec Bar Association announced the names of the lawyers who have received the title of Advocate Emeritus for the year 2021. Abbreviation for the Latin Advocatus Emeritus, the honourary title Ad. E. is added after the name of the recipient. This title is attributed to members whose professional background has distinguished itself for both professional contribution and social and community involvement.
