Newfoundland and Labrador is asking the Canadian federal government to double the province's allocation of immigrants who can settle there through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

The Minister of Immigration of this province, Mr. Gary Byrne, told the Saltwire network: "We are changing the projected population decline, but we need the federal government to comply with our request." Population growth will not hinder our proper functioning.

The province of Ontario has planned an entrepreneurial pilot program with the goal of welcoming 100 newcomers outside of Toronto and attracting $20 million in capital.

The two-year pilot program is called OINP's Entrepreneurial Success Initiative, run by the Toronto Business Development Center (TBDC).

The basic requirements in this entrepreneurial stream are a minimum net worth of $400,000, an investment of $200,000, and ownership of at least 33% of the business.

Canada launched a new National Occupational Classification (NOC) system for immigration and work permit applications effective November 16th .

People who have a profile in the Express Entry suite should update it with the new code, as the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and PNP streams associated with Express Entry will all use the new system.

Of course, candidates who applied before November 16, their applications will be evaluated according to the previous NOC 2016 instead of NOC 2021.

The Canadian government has published its annual report on immigration in 2022 to the parliament.

This report summarizes the developments of the past years in the immigration sector in all business fields. The 2021 data shows that IRCC is trying to recover from the effects of COVID-19.

This report goes beyond the numbers and provides insights into how IRCC has progressed in the past year and how it can continue to do so in the future.

In the following, we will briefly discuss two parts of this report.

1- Record breaking acceptance of all immigration classes in 2021

- During 2021, IRCC shifted its focus to granting permanent residency to candidates already living in Canada. This year, Canada accepted about 253,000 people through economic immigration and more than 81,000 people through the family support program.

2- Paths of temporary residence to permanent residence

- In 2021, IRCC also introduced a pilot pathway from temporary residency to permanent residency. In this way, more than 191 thousand temporary residents were able to receive permanent residence.

The province of Ontario invited 641 immigration candidates under the streams of master's and doctorate graduates during the latest draw of its provincial programs.

This draw was held on October 25.

535 invitation letters were awarded to the candidates of the master's program with a minimum score of 35 and 106 invitation letters were awarded to the doctoral graduates with a minimum score of 24.
