WCB abruptly stopped your benefits?
You’re not alone.
One of the most common calls I get is from workers who say:
“My wage loss just stopped.”
“They said I’m fit for work.”
“They closed my claim.”
“They cut off medical treatment.”
And it feels like it happened overnight.
Here’s what most people don’t realize:
WCB can only terminate benefits if they have medical and policy grounds to do so. That usually means they believe one of the following:
• You’ve recovered from the compensable injury
• Your current symptoms are no longer related to the workplace injury
• You’re fit for suitable employment
• You’ve reached maximum medical recovery
But here’s the key question:
What medical evidence are they relying on?
Was it:
– A paper review?
– A WCB medical advisor opinion?
– An IME?
– A misinterpretation of your doctor’s notes?
Benefit terminations are often based on internal medical opinions that may conflict with your treating physician.
Many terminations are appealable.
Some are reversible.
But timing matters.
