WCB abruptly stopped your benefits?

You’re not alone.

One of the most common calls I get is from workers who say:

“My wage loss just stopped.”
“They said I’m fit for work.”
“They closed my claim.”
“They cut off medical treatment.”

And it feels like it happened overnight.

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

WCB can only terminate benefits if they have medical and policy grounds to do so. That usually means they believe one of the following:

• You’ve recovered from the compensable injury
• Your current symptoms are no longer related to the workplace injury
• You’re fit for suitable employment
• You’ve reached maximum medical recovery

But here’s the key question:

What medical evidence are they relying on?

Was it:
– A paper review?
– A WCB medical advisor opinion?
– An IME?
– A misinterpretation of your doctor’s notes?

Benefit terminations are often based on internal medical opinions that may conflict with your treating physician.

Many terminations are appealable.
Some are reversible.
But timing matters.

WCB advocate – what do we do?

If your WCB claim was denied, cut off, or feels stuck, the first question is always the same: what do we do now?

As a WCB advocate based in Calgary but serving all of Alberta, I help injured workers understand why WCB made their decision, whether policy was followed, and what realistic options still exist. That might mean an appeal, requesting further review, or sometimes being honest that pushing forward won’t help.

The first step is always a full file review so decisions are based on what’s actually in your WCB claim.

Message me if you want to know where you stand.

Are you stuck waiting MONTHS for WCB to make a decision?
A lot of workers are seeing extreme delays right now - decisions that should take weeks are dragging on for months, sometimes longer. These delays can hold up treatment, income support, and next steps on the claim.

If your file has stalled or you’re not getting answers, you’re not alone.
There are ways to push a delayed claim forward.

Is WCB underpaying you?

If your cheques feel too small, they probably are.
WCB wage-loss errors are insanely common. Missing overtime, wrong earnings, missing shift premiums, bad calculations… the list is long.

I review the math and find the mistakes WCB doesn’t

WCB Procedural Fairness — Your Right to a Fair Process

When WCB makes a decision that affects your benefits, you have the right to more than just a review. You have the right to procedural fairness.

That means WCB must:
• Give you a real opportunity to respond to information being used against you
• Base decisions only on evidence you’ve had a chance to see
• Provide clear reasons explaining how and why a decision was made

If they fail to do that — for example, by relying on unseen medical reports, ignoring your written input, or issuing sudden reversals without explanation — that’s a breach of fairness, and it can be appealed.

Procedural fairness isn’t a courtesy. It’s a legal obligation.

If you think WCB didn’t play fair, we can review your file and show you exactly where your rights were missed.
