This story made headlines over the weekend after an Ontario court refused to allow an American doctor who says he doesn't believe in brain death to serve as expert witness in the case of a woman whose family is is fighting to keep her alive. "In my view, Dr. Byrne is more of an advocate than an independent witness, said the judge.

Opioid painkillers account for more medical-malpractice claims related to drug errors than any other drug class, according to a new study released today by the medical liability insurer Coverys that illustrates the far-reaching effects of the opioid abuse epidemic.

One problem is that some physicians cave into the requests of persuasive, pill-seeking patients against their better judgement, the medical liability insurer Coverys says in a new study.

A new study is sounding a warning about the high number of recalls of medical devices - ranging from joints used in hip and knee replacements to hospital beds and other equipments.

A new study has found more than 7,200 medical devices were recalled in Canada between 2005 and 2014, ranging from hospital beds to major joint implants to hernia mesh.
