In a recent landmark ruling, Ahluwalia v Ahluwalia, 2026 SCC 16, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized that coercive control and emotional abuse can be forms of Intimate Partner Violence.
This can include
• Emotional manipulation
• Financial control
• Isolation
• Threats and intimidation
