Missing one payment can become a bigger issue when missed payments continue to accumulate.

If child support isn't being paid as required, there may be enforcement options available through Alberta's Maintenance Enforcement Program, depending on the circumstances.

At the same time, if a paying parent's financial circumstances have genuinely changed, the answer may involve addressing the support amount itself rather than simply allowing arrears to grow.

Under the Divorce Act, courts consider factors including the child's needs and stability, relationships with important people, each parent's ability and willingness to care for the child, and the child's views and preferences where they can be ascertained and given appropriate weight. Others involve ongoing disagreements over almost everything.
