Spread the news!!! We are hiring.
Job description
About you:
We are looking for an associate lawyer with extensive Chambers experience. Knowledge of real estate and mortgage financing transactions will be an absolute benefit. Some general litigation skills will also be required for the occasional litigation file the firm takes on.
This candidate will be able to work well within a team, providing direction and leadership, and be open and willing to learn within that environment. You have to have strong communication skills and be clear and precise when speaking to clients , to the courts and with our team.
We are looking for someone who wants to build their future with us. Integrity, honesty, accuracy and a love for what you do and get to do is required. These are part of our core values. You want to learn, be mentored and become an expert in a specialized field of law in foreclosures (yes, we know no one is designated as an expert!).
It would be great if you had clients of your own and were starting to learn or have learned how to market yourself and bring in your own billings. That is just an important of any practise and it shows initiative and drive.
About Us:
We are a small firm of 3 lawyers and about 12 staff. We are in downtown Calgary near the Courthouse (which no longer seems to be a necessity). We work hard. We laugh alot. We swear (but never to our clients or defendants). We support each other and always have each other's backs.
We are so blessed to work with amazing clients, from National Banks, Trust Companies, Mortgage Investment Corporations and Private Lenders. Our clients have high expectations of us but not as high as we place upon ourselves. We work at a fast pace and therefore accuracy in all that we do is essential. We are all attentive, productive, dedicated and reliable at work.
The job rarely requires working late or on weekends, but of course that can happen. For security reasons our phones are not synced to the office.
We have developed systems that help us work smarter, not harder, and it is a continuing goal to build upon those systems. Everyone contributes in this regard and we would want you to do so as well. We are responsive to our clients and that has certainly helped us maintain being leaders in our fields. You need to have a "solve the problem" default setting rather than a complain about a problem attitude. Problems happen. That's why we have a business; to solve those problems for our clients. When we know what to do, we do it! When we don't, we find out.
We dress casual, other than for court attendances, and therefore your office will be full of changes of clothes for the day.
We would want you to eventually be called to the Bar in the Territories as that is part of our foreclosure practise. We pay your Law Society, ALIA, Canadian Bar Association and Calgary Bar Association fees. We pay for and strongly encourage continued learning in our areas of practise and in leadership training. We also encourage opportunities to pass on that knowledge to our client base, service providers and other members of the Bar.
We really consider ourselves a big family. Becoming a part of that family matters to us. We want you to succeed. We want you to learn from us and teach us too. We want our place of work to be where we all feel successful, proud of what we do, respected, supported and encouraged by one another. We want to find a person who wants that too!
The lawyer that is leaving us was recruited to an amazing government position and was not looking to leave. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and we support her in that decision. That leaves big shoes to fill but we are confident you are out there and that you will excel in the position.
