Divorce does not have to mean conflict, courtrooms, or losing control of the decisions that matter most.

At McNeill Family Law, Collaborative Divorce is a core part of our practice. With extensive experience helping families resolve separation and divorce outside of court, I have seen how powerful this process can be when people are supported with the right structure, information, and professional team.

Collaborative Divorce allows spouses to work respectfully and transparently toward practical agreements that reflect their family’s unique needs. The process often includes collaboratively trained lawyers and, where helpful, neutral financial and family professionals who assist with communication, parenting planning, and informed decision-making.

The goal is not simply to “get through” divorce. It is to help families move forward with dignity, clarity, and a foundation for the next chapter.

If you are considering separation or divorce and want a process focused on respect, problem-solving, and avoiding court, we invite you to learn more.

I’m delighted to be presenting for The Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists at their upcoming conference.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of presenting and training with collaborative practice groups nationally and internationally, including the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Legal Education Society of Alberta. I’m looking forward to bringing that experience—along with my work as a family lawyer, mediator, collaborative practitioner, and neuroscience-informed coach—to this important conversation about supporting families through separation and divorce with clarity, dignity, and reduced conflict.

As summer approaches, routines shift, and parenting schedules often need to adjust.

Taking time to plan ahead can help reduce stress and create a more positive experience for everyone involved.

A few considerations:
• Discuss vacation plans and activities early
• Keep communication clear and centered on your children
• Build in flexibility where possible
• Confirm logistics in advance
• Focus on creating a consistent and supportive environment

A well-structured parenting plan can provide stability, even when schedules change.

At McNeill Family Law, we work with families to create practical co-parenting arrangements that reflect real life.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Separation and divorce can place added strain on emotional well-being, particularly when mental health is already part of the picture.

A collaborative approach is designed with this in mind. It brings together legal, financial, and mental health professionals to support thoughtful decision-making and respectful communication.

This structure allows space for each person to be heard, while keeping the focus on moving forward in a steady and supported way.

At McNeill Family Law, support is not an add-on. It is part of the process.
