🇨🇦 Canada Immigration Update: The low-wage LMIA processing pause now covers 30 cities

On October 9, 2026, the Government of Canada updated its quarterly list of cities where Service Canada may refuse to process LMIA applications for low-wage positions.

✅ Six cities added: Halifax, Fredericton, Kingston, St. Catharines-Niagara, Regina and Lethbridge
✅ Kamloops and Chilliwack came off the list
✅ The current list applies to applications submitted from Oct 9, 2026 to Jan 7, 2027
✅ Some sectors, such as construction, hospitals and primary agriculture, remain exempt

🇨🇦 CANADA PR WITHOUT EXPRESS ENTRY?

Many people focus only on Ontario, BC and Alberta when exploring Canadian permanent residence.

But what about Atlantic Canada? 👀

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a pathway to permanent residence for eligible skilled foreign workers and qualifying international graduates who want to live and work in:

📍 New Brunswick
📍 Nova Scotia
📍 Prince Edward Island
📍 Newfoundland & Labrador

But there is an important requirement:

⚠️ You need a qualifying job offer from a DESIGNATED Atlantic employer.

And simply finding any employer in Atlantic Canada isn’t enough.

The employer must be designated by the relevant province, the job offer must meet AIP requirements, and the candidate must meet applicable requirements involving work experience, education, language, settlement planning and funds. Certain eligible Atlantic graduates can be exempt from the work-experience requirement, and applicants already living and working in Canada with a valid work permit don’t need to show settlement funds.

After the settlement plan, the province must also endorse the job offer before the PR application proceeds.
