Shipping your belongings to Canada too early can lead to customs delays and storage fees.

Many people spend months preparing their work permit, business immigration plan or relocation strategy, then realise too late that their household goods also need to be timed properly.

If your shipment arrives before you do, or before your immigration documents are in place, your belongings may sit in customs. That can create extra costs and delays at the exact moment you are trying to settle into Canada.

Before you ship anything, make sure your moving company understands your immigration timeline and that your paperwork is ready for the border.

Relocation works best when your immigration documents, travel date, moving company and household goods are planned together.

If you are relocating to Canada for work or business, contact Ackah Law before you travel so the details are clear before your belongings are on the way.

Could your company pass an LMIA employer compliance inspection today?

Receiving a positive LMIA does not mean an employer’s responsibilities are finished. Service Canada can inspect employers to confirm that the wages, job duties, working conditions and records still match what was approved.

Join me live for What Happens During an LMIA Employer Compliance Inspection?
I’ll discuss why employers may be selected for inspection, what Service Canada can review and the documents employers should be prepared to provide.

I’ll also explain how changes to wages, hours, job duties or work locations can create compliance concerns and what can happen when an employer is found non-compliant.

Before an inspection notice arrives, make sure your LMIA files, payroll records and employment practices are in order.

Does earning more automatically mean you are building wealth?

Not necessarily.

In this conversation, Obed Maurice and Simon Wong of Maxim Advisory Group explain why lasting financial security begins with a thoughtful and deliberate plan—not one-off advice.

Obed discusses the importance of understanding each client’s complete financial picture, goals and long-term strategy. Simon explains why even high-income professionals can feel financially trapped when every increase in earnings is matched by an increase in lifestyle.

Income creates opportunity, but building wealth means learning how to keep, grow, protect and eventually transfer what you earn.

Does a Canadian job offer mean a foreign worker can start working?

No—and making that assumption can lead to unauthorized work, application refusals and serious compliance issues for the employer.

Join me live for Canada LMIA and Work Permit Rules Every Employer and Foreign Worker Should Know in 2026.
I’ll discuss the difference between an LMIA and a work permit, when an LMIA may be required, how high-wage and low-wage applications are assessed and why some applications may not be processed at all.

I’ll also explain what employers must demonstrate during the application process, what foreign workers need to confirm before starting a job and why an employer’s compliance responsibilities continue after the worker begins employment.

Before recruiting internationally, promising a start date or accepting a Canadian job offer, make sure the correct immigration process has been identified.

The fastest way for an American to move to Canada may be through the job you already have.

Many Americans assume they need to start over with a brand-new Canadian employer, but that is not always true.

If your current company has a Canadian entity, an intercompany transfer may be one of the fastest options. If you have a Canadian job offer, a work permit can often become the foundation for permanent residence over time.

If you are an entrepreneur with capital and a serious business plan, there may also be business immigration options through provincial entrepreneur programs.

And if you have skilled work experience and strong language ability, you may be more competitive than you realise.

The key is choosing the pathway that fits your actual profile. Canada is not closed to Americans, but the right strategy depends on your work history, employer, business plans and long-term goals.

If you are thinking about moving to Canada, contact Ackah Law to review your background and understand which pathway makes the most sense for you.
