Canada has implemented a cap on international student intake to manage growth and combat the misuse of the education system. This measure aims to prevent individuals, including student workers and their unskilled dependents, from exploiting the educational platform as a means to enter the Canadian labour market. The abuse of the system has led to vulnerable situations for these individuals, who are subsequently subjected to further mistreatment by employers.

The decision to limit the number of international students reflects a strategic move to maintain stability and address concerns related to the ongoing misuse of educational opportunities. By curbing the influx of students entering the country for labor market purposes, Canada seeks to protect the integrity of its education system and ensure that international students are genuinely pursuing academic goals rather than exploiting the system for employment.

The vulnerable position of student workers and their dependents is emphasized, as they often face additional challenges due to their circumstances. Employers, taking advantage of this vulnerability, engage in exploitative practices that further compound the issues faced by these individuals.

In summary, Canada's announcement of a cap on international student intake is a proactive measure to stabilize growth and counter the abuse of the education system for labour market entry. The focus is on safeguarding the well-being of international students, particularly student workers and their unskilled dependents, who are susceptible to exploitation in the Canadian labour market. This decision aligns with Canada's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its education system and fostering a fair and equitable environment for all students.

Beware of Marriage Fraud
(source: IRCC)

It’s a crime set up “marriage of convenience” or say a fake marriage just to allow your sponsored spouse or common-law partner to immigrate to Canada.

Immigration officers know how to detect false marriages and there are serious criminal charges that includes:

• IRCC may take legal action against you with a fine of up to 100,000, imprisonment for up to 5 years or both

• not allow your sponsored spouse or common-law partner to enter Canada for five years

• deport your sponsored spouse or common-law partner from Canada

Don’t let a marriage of convenience, inconvenience you. No matter the reason, its not worth the risk.

The ongoing diplomatic dispute between Canada and India will result in slower visa processing of Indians looking to come to Canada. IRCC will continue to accept and process applications from India, but reduced staffing levels are expected to impact processing times.

The Canadian federal government is considering a cap on the number of international students to ease the pressure on the housing market. That came after a sharp spike in study permits: 541,405 new permits were issued in 2022, up 24 per cent from 2021.

Housing affordability is one of the main issues as cabinet meets for three days in Charlottetown P.E.I.
