If your home has an attached garage, or uses a forced air gas furnace or has a gas stove or a fireplace etc, please ensure that every level of your home has a CO detector installed & operating normally. They aren't that expensive (usually around $50 each) and are available at major hardware & home retailers. Better to be safe than sorry while complying with the law.

So, our house insurance is up for renewal and all insurance companies have increased their rates dramatically this year. The company we were with wanted to increase our house insurance by 57% (from $1221 to $1929 per year and that's claims free and loyal customers for 27 years), so I shopped around. Ended up saving over $400 even though it's still 23% more than last year's premium. A couple of quick hints 1. The better your credit score, the better the discount, and 2. bundle your insurance together (home & car for a further discount). Be ready for some sticker shock on your insurance bills this year, folks...
