IRCC announces update to Parents and Grandparents Program 2023

IRCC will accept up to 15,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents Program this year. On October 10, IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors, aiming to receive up to the 15,000 complete applications. If you submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020, but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022, you are encouraged to check the email account you provided in 2020 when you submitted your interest to sponsor form.

Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program 2023
If you are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor your parents or grandparents to come to Canada. Through the PGP, your parents or grandparents will be able to receive Canadian Permanent Residency and may eventually apply to become Canadian Citizens. The information for 2023 PGP has not been released yet however, an alternate popular option in the meantime for Canadian citizens and permanent residents looking to bring their foreign parents and grandparents to Canada is the Super Visa. The Super Visa is offered year round which allows parents and grandparents to visit their families for up to 5 consecutive years without renewing visitor status.

International Students with expired or expiring post-graduation work permits now can get extension of post-graduation work permits up to 18 months starting Thursday April 6, 2023! The Open Work Permit extension will be available to anyone whose PGWP expires in 2023. It will also be available whose PGWP expires in 2022 and applied for IRCC’s Open Work Permit Extension last year.

Today Minister Mendicino announced a new pathway to permanent residence for over 90,000 essential workers and international student graduates who are actively contributing to Canada’s economy.

Starting May 6, 2021, this pathway will allow eligible international graduates, who studied in Canada, as well as temporary workers in health care and other essential occupations, to apply for permanent residence.

We will accept applications under these policies from May 6 - November 5 2021, or until a program stream has reached its limit:
• 20,000 temporary foreign workers in health care
• 30,000 temporary foreign workers in selected essential occupations
• 40,000 international graduates

Please note: to support the vitality of Francophone minority communities, 3 additional streams with no application limit have also been launched for French-speaking or bilingual candidates.
