My name is Angie Calliou and I am the owner/operator of AVS Legal. In 2023, Advantage Virtual Services rebranded to use the name AVS Legal.

The time is now to embrace the rapidly changing horizon of legal technology software and let it work for you: increasing productivity, profit, cybersecurity, and peace of mind!
Let me show you how to use the power of technology to your advantage! After graduating from the Legal Assistant Program at Grant MacEwan College in 1996, I pursued a career as a legal assistant for the following 15 years working in various law firms and cultivating a foundation of knowledge in various areas of law. In 2011, Advantage Virtual Services was founded in order to enable me to utilize the skills and knowledge I have obtained during my career as a legal assistant to provide quality virtual legal assistance from my home office. We have experience in the following areas of law:

Litigation Wills and Estates Real Estate
Insurance Defence Guardianship & Trusteeship
Family Law

We also provide general virtual assistance such as word processing, proofreading and transcription. I have an excellent work ethic and pride myself in completing my work in a competent and timely manner. AI can help a law firm move faster. But what does it take to move forward well?
Angie attended Clio’s The New Precedent event in Calgary last night, and that question ran through so many of the conversations.

Clio shared that 95% of Canadian legal professionals are already using AI. The discussion has moved beyond whether firms will adopt it. Now it’s about using it responsibly: protecting client information, checking the sources and keeping professional judgment at the centre of the work.
We also talked about what happens after AI saves time. How should firms price their services? How can they respond to clients faster without sacrificing quality? And are their billing and accounting workflows keeping up?

That made the Canadian launches of Clio Work and, just last week, legal accounting within Clio Manage especially interesting. One supports research and drafting in the context of Canadian matters; the other brings billing, payments and bookkeeping closer together.

The biggest takeaway: the technology is moving quickly, but the firms that benefit most will be the ones willing to rethink their workflows, train their people and listen to what clients actually need.

Canadian law firms, the wait is over: Clio Accounting is here!

As AI makes legal work faster, how should law firms change the way they work—and charge for it?

Yesterday, AVS Legal’s Angie Calliou attended The New Precedent: AI and the Future of Canadian Law in Toronto. The conversation went well beyond what AI can do. It focused on what firms need to do next.

A few takeaways stood out:
🔹 AI is becoming part of everyday practice. Firms are using it for research, document review, drafting and client communication, with lawyers still responsible for checking the work and applying their judgment.
🔹 Adoption takes more than a new tool. Training, clear policies and practical use cases help teams put AI to work responsibly.
🔹 Faster work raises new pricing questions. As AI reduces the time some tasks take, firms have an opportunity to explore fixed fees and other ways to give clients greater certainty.

For Angie, the central question was: How can firms use these tools to deliver better service while building a sustainable practice? It’s a conversation we’re looking forward to continuing with our clients.

🌿 Taking time to recharge is just as important as taking care of our clients.

A few weeks ago, the AVS Legal team stepped away from our desks for our annual summer team-building afternoon. We spent the day at the beautiful Casey's Cabin, enjoying great conversations, delicious BBQ, and the opportunity to slow down and reconnect as a team.

One of the highlights of the day was a deeply relaxing and restorative sound bath led by Just Breathe Yoga, providing the perfect opportunity to rest, renew, and reset.

We're grateful for a team that genuinely enjoys spending time together and for moments like these that remind us of the importance of balance, connection, and well-being.

Thank you to Casey's Cabin and Just Breathe Yoga for helping make it such a memorable day.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to co-host an incredible event in Calgary alongside Actionstep and NetDocuments , bringing together legal professionals for an afternoon of connection, conversation, and innovation.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and shared insights on the future of legal technology, practice management, and building more efficient law firms. It's always valuable to connect with professionals who are passionate about improving the way they work and serve their clients.

We'd also like to thank The Dorian Hotel for being such an outstanding venue. From the beautiful event space to the exceptional restaurants and atmosphere, it was the perfect setting for a fantastic event.
