We had a great trip to Jordan!

The country is stable. It is advanced in STEM areas and green energy. It has great higher learning facilities to educate a young, motivated workforce that includes Jordanians and refugees with in-need areas (for our region) such as construction and healthcare.

We met with representatives of our provincial and federal governments during the trip related to the programs, including the new-ish EMPP, for potential newcomers into Canada. We hope all of this will be used for the benefit of employers and our region overall.

Sou'west NS is growing! Our population, our economy, and our workplace needs.

We need more skilled trades people, more Healthcare workers, more education support staff, more hands in our packaging and processing plants. We also have significant housing limitations.

How can we solve our housing issues if we lack human resources in the construction areas? These needs will hamper our growth if we cannot solve them.

Many of these needs are shared across our province and Nova Scotia has pathways in place for bringing in new people to help solve these challenges and enrich our communities. But who can easily navigate these programs and who has the connections with potential non-resident candidates?

We, Mayor Pam Mood and WREN CEO Angelique Leblanc (Western Regional Enterprise Network) and Benjamin or Barrington Law, are on an exploratory visit in Jordan on behalf of our region as part of bridging the pathway to best take advantage of these programs for our region's benefit.

There will be additional info about this in the coming days!

From working with clients, we know many affected by the Shelburne County Wildfire have had delayed responses in dealing with their insurance companies and some are still waiting on insurance proceeds.

As such, we will continue to provide significantly reduced legal fees through the end of March for anyone who lost their home in Shelburne County due to the fires.
