In Ontario, most employees cannot be required to work more than 48 hours per week unless they have agreed to it in writing. Additional points:
• Overtime pay is generally 1.5 times regular pay after 44 hours per week
• Some industries and roles are exempt
• Employment contracts may affect your rights

Myth: "If I sign an employment contract with a non-compete clause, I can't work for a competitor after I leave my job."
Reality: In Ontario, non-compete clauses are illegal and completely void for the vast majority of employees. Unless you are a top executive, like a CEO or CFO, or you just sold your business to your employer, these clauses cannot be enforced against you.
