Rail safety starts with you.
As part of , the OPP is reminding everyone to stay alert and make safe choices around railway tracks and crossings.
Trains can approach faster and more quietly than you may expect and they cannot stop quickly. That's why it's important to always obey railway signs, signals and warning devices.
Never drive, walk, or cycle around lowered crossing gates, and never proceed when warning lights are flashing or bells are sounding. Cross tracks only at designated railway crossings and wait until it is safe to proceed. Whether you're behind the wheel, on a bike, or on foot, stay focused on your surroundings and avoid distractions near railway crossings.
By making safe choices and encouraging others to do the same, we can help prevent tragedy.
