The legal options to remove someone’s citizenship are limited and strictly regulated.

In contrast, those granted citizenship for special merits are almost fully protected. Below we will describe the situations in which the Bulgarian state may legally remove or withdraw citizenship. These cases are extremely rare, but they do exist.
