🇪🇺 European Union’s AI Act enters into force: What will the role of leaders and managers be?

Most AI systems, such as spam filters and AI-enabled recommendation systems, pose minimal risk to the general public.

However, specific biometric systems, such as emotion recognition in the workplace and certain forms of predictive policing, are now strictly prohibited in the European Union.

Member States have until August 2025 to adopt laws that enforce the AI Act in their national territories.

🔵 As this regulatory milestone is taking place, CEC European Managers, through its Working Group on AI led by President Maxime Legrand, published a position paper on Artificial Intelligence, leadership, and partnership a couple of months ago with the goal of fostering managers and leaders’ role in implementing and monitoring AI tools in the workplace.

During the General Assembly, member organisations re-elected Maxime Legrand as President for a new 3-year term, alongside Torkild Justesen and ebba öhlund.

🇮🇹 Silvia Pugi was elected as the Deputy Secretary-General for the next mandate in Marco Vezzani’s place, who, after many years of commitment to EU social dialogue, is now leaving the floor to a new generation of leaders.

Regarding the Financial Control Committee, Paola Vitale (Cidar) and Anders Grahn (Ledarna - Sveriges chefsorganisation) joined Juan Antonio González Barriocanal (CCP Confederación de Cuadros y Profesionales), who was also re-elected for a second term.

🇪🇺 Director of the confederation, Olga Molina, introduced the EU project Beyunbi and the work done through the Brussels headquarters following the Council of the European Union's invitations and European Commission's consultations, and Communications Officer Pere Vilanova highlighted the agreement signed with the European Parliament and the new Activity Report 2021-2024:

🇪🇺 The latest European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights report shows that "A fragile equality hangs in the balance."

Despite the fact that most respondents (57%) of the latest survey on discrimination said they never faced negative comments or conduct at work, the workplace is the setting where most discrimination experiences happen (18%).

We are concerned about workplace-related violence and harassment targeting LGBTI+ people, including aggressive behaviours happening online.

🔵 CEC European Managers, together with its member organisations and the European Commission, is working hard to tackle inequalities, biases, and discrimination through EU Projects, such as Beyunbi - Beyond Unconscious Bias, and our Gender Equality and Diversity Working Group position paper "Mainstreaming Gender Equality in European Leadership."
