A new generation of justice professionals is stepping forward.

Earlier this month, 400 future and early‑career judges and prosecutors took part in the 2026 AIAKOS Programme. For two weeks, they were hosted by 18 judicial schools and training institutions across Europe, discovering how justice is shaped in different national contexts.

They exchanged ideas, attended workshops and Court hearings, learned from peers, and built connections that will support their careers for years to come.

For over a decade, the AIAKOS Programme has been opening doors for young justice practitioners by:
✔️ fostering cross-border learning
✔️ encouraging exchange between European judicial cultures
✔️ strengthening understanding of Europe’s shared legal practices
✔️ connecting future or early-career professionals from across the EU
✔️ and more!

How is judicial review applied in practice?

On 11 June 2026, EJTN is organising an online training for judges and prosecutors, as part of its Criminal Justice portfolio, focusing on the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) and its role in protecting the European Union’s financial interests.

The training will focus on the system of judicial review of EPPO activities, emphasising the essential role played by national courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in ensuring the legality and accountability of EPPO actions.

During this online training, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of:
🔵 The EPPO’s operational framework
🔵 The procedural framework governing EPPO investigations and prosecutions
🔵 Judicial review of EPPO procedural acts under the EPPO Regulation
🔵 Judicial review before the national courts
🔵 Cooperation between national courts and the CJEU through preliminary ruling requests

🔴Application deadline: 25 May 2026
A warm thank you to Cornelia Riehle from the Academy of European Law (ERA) and Petra Wagner, German federal judge, for the support in coordinating this online training, as well as to Till Gut and Slawomir Buczma from the EPPO for their invaluable contributions.

Strong European cooperation is fundamental to building high-quality training for prosecutors at European level.

On 7-8 May, the 17th Conference of the Network of Public Prosecutors or Equivalent Institutions at the Supreme Judicial Courts of the Member States of the European Union (NADAL Network) took place in Brussels.

This year’s conference, marking 20 years since the network’s creation, was dedicated to the Rule of Law, a core principle to which European prosecutors actively contributed. During the event, a declaration on the role of prosecution services in safeguarding the Rule of Law was adopted, and the founder of the network, former French Prosecutor General Jean Louis Nadal, was awarded the NADAL Prize.

EJTN Secretary General, Judge Ingrid Derveaux, contributed to this prestigious conference by highlighting the role of EJTN as a key coordinator of judicial training in Europe, including several training initiatives and topics relevant to European prosecutors, regardless of their Member State.

Building on 25 years of experience, and as a long-standing partner of the NADAL Network formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015, EJTN plays a key role in addressing training needs of direct relevance to European prosecutors. This cooperation strengthens dialogue and information exchange between the two networks and supports the development of targeted judicial training at EU level.

Find out more about this important event on our website: https://ejtn.eu/news/nadal-network-conference-the-key-role-of-european-prosecutors-in-upholding-the-rule-of-law/

Our sincere thanks to the Office of the Prosecutor General, headed by Prosecutor General Ria Mortier, for the flawless organisation of this event. We also extend our thanks to Secretaries General Franz Plötz and Sonya Djemni‑Wagner, as well as to the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, Director Jean‑François Thony and Deputy Director Céline Viguier, for their valuable support to the NADAL Network. A special thanks to Rémy Heitz, Prosecutor General at the French Court of Cassation, who moderated the panel EJTN took part in.

We also thank all participants and partners for contributing to discussions on topics that are essential to the future of European justice.

Consumer protection is something citizens experience in their everyday lives.

EJTN continues to develop innovative e-learning tools, helping justice practitioners across Europe handle European matters in a more effective and coordinated way.

In this context, EJTN recently launched an interactive training game on consumer protection, developed by the EJTN Sub-Working Group on Civil Law. The game immerses participants in practical situations inspired by real-life consumer protection issues, strengthening their ability to address challenging cases.

As Stylianos Bios, Presiding Judge, First Instance Court of Larissa, Greece, and Convener of the EJTN Civil Law Sub-Working Group, notes: “Better preparation leads to better decisions”. This principle is at the core of EJTN’s newly launched interactive training game.

Combining innovation and digital learning, the game is built around realistic scenarios and features interactive decision-making, scoring mechanisms, and instant evaluation for judges, prosecutors, and court staff. It can be used ahead of, during, and after EJTN seminars and webinars.
