JANA KALYAN KENDRA-JKK is a tribal based non-political, non-profitable and non-governmental development organization (NGO). It came into existence on 13th February 1972 by active initiative of some dedicated Manipuri Youths that have long experience in the fields of development of Education, Equity, Unity, Democracy, Peace and Socio-Economic Development to promote and imparting services of the le
ss fortunate and powerless people with the men, women and children of both urban and rural areas irrespective of caste, creed and religion. LEGAL STATUS OF THE ORGANIZATION:
JKK is legally entitled to render community development services and to receive foreign donations for the development services. JKK is registered with the following Government Organizations of Bangladesh are as follows:
1. JKK is registered with the Directorate of Social Services; Government of the people's republic of Bangladesh vides Registration No. JKK is registered with Directorate of Family planning Government of the people's republic of Bangladesh vides Registration No. 6, Dated 21 - 12 - 79.
3. JKK is registered under Foreign Donation Voluntary Activities Regulation Rules 1978, by NGO AFFAIRS BUREAU, Prime minister's secretariat, Government of the people's republic of Bangladesh vides Registration No. 194, Dated 20 - 11 - 85
The VISION of JKK is to establish a society where the disadvantaged tribal communities, tea garden workers and other poor majority and minority people economically productive and enjoy an equitable environment. Objectives of the organization
In order to reach its vision, JKK builds on the following organizational objectives:
• Empowering the poor people for involving them in the process of sustainable development.
• Empower Tribal and landless poor people socially and economically.
• Increase the rate of literacy among tribal and poor people.
• Empower the people to be active participant in the process of development.
• Mobilize local resources inc. curbing HIV/AIDS in Sylhet Division.
• Create linkages within the Division to share information and technical know-how.
• Improve the standard of living and working conditions of tribal communities and tea garden workers.
• Assist local government and NGO efforts in launching mass awareness on development issues
• Reduce discrimination between men and women.
• To share the experience gained from the project with other local and national NGOs, GOB and civil society. MAJOR CURRENT ACTIVITIES:
