Surma Tea Estate (P) Ltd.

Surma Tea Estate (P) Ltd. Surma is an unceasing source of inspiration, determination, pride and honor. Family legend has it that he built his fortune led entirely by his nose.

Surma Tea Estate ranks amongst some of the largest privately owned tea estates in the world, producing over a million kilograms of tea in a vast 4,700 acre property. Surma has always been the oak whose century-old canopy provided shelter to generations in this intricately-knitted family and thus allowed them to exercise and refine their understanding of the trade, in addition to strengthening the

ardent love for producing fine tea. It is an emotional affair marked with great reverence for a gentle, humble, and a philanthropist of a human being who once lived by the name of Khan Bahadur Nawab Musharraf Hussain. Nawab Musharraf Hussain of Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) was a lawyer and a politician by profession, but his true passion lay deep in the ground, intertwined with the roots of the camellia sinensis plant. His life-long love affair with tea commenced in 1899 as he went on establishing and acquiring various tea gardens. Upon espying a choice piece of virgin land, the young man would scoop a handful of earth, bury his nose in it, inhale deeply and pronounce, “good, we will plant,” or “rubbish, move on.”

The torch initially ignited by Nawab Musharraf Hussain is kept alit to this day. Five successive generations have had the privilege of becoming a part of the odyssey; an odyssey that keeps prolonging with every generation. We solemnly promise to uphold Nawab Musharaf Hussain's values with the same fervour for as long as we, his heirs, govern the lands of blessed Surma.

The 6th of December marks the 79th Birthday of my beloved Grandmother, Qamar Khan, who now befittingly rests in tranquility amid the grounds she dearly loved while she was alive. Her flamboyant garden, her pride, her legacy... Surma T.E.

I request everyone to keep her immortal in your prayers, every word uttered for her in remembrance is valued.

One year ago, life would take an abrupt and a sharp turn towards the unexpected. A situation never before envisaged or the seriousness fathomed. A spirited, dynamic and a vigorous man with forthright characteristics renowned among the men and women who knew him for savoring and evaluating life and living each moment of it as per his striking, yet sometimes merrily impractical theory of "Living Life King Size" with absolute disregard to worldly concerns. "Bliss" was the subject of the matter! In his salient utterance, actions and presence we found solace as it was this trio in particular that never failed to lift a cheek or raise a smile. Such men in life are rare and irreplaceable as is our beloved Adel Chacha.

In profound respect and loving memory of Adel Moyeen (9th December 1962 - 16th November 2010). A loving son, a humble brother, a jolly husband, an ever-supportive father, an admirable uncle, a wonderful companion/friend to be with and much more.

5th October 2011: The world bids farewell to an intellect who embodied absolute charisma and fortitude, a man who sowed inspiration to all both known and unknown to him in exceptional methods of human expression. He was a protagonist by all means who came in silence, fulfilled his part, cemented his achievements in the books of history and left in peace.
