Updates for B1/B2 visa
Bangladesh has been added to the list of countries whose citizens may be required to post a visa bond when applying for a U.S. B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourist) visa. This requirement takes effect as part of the expanded visa bond pilot program, with the policy update effective January 21, 2026.

**What This Means for Bangladeshi Applicants

1. Bond Requirement

• If you’re a Bangladeshi national applying for a U.S. B-1/B-2 visa, must post a bond. The amount is determined at the time of the visa interview.

2. Amount

• The bond amount can range from $5,000 to $15,000.

• The exact amount is decided by the consular officer during the visa interview, typically based on factors like likelihood of overstaying.

3. Refundability

The bond is refundable if:

• the visa is denied, or

• you comply with all visa conditions and depart the U.S. on or before the authorized date.

4. No Guarantee of Visa Approval

• Posting the bond does not guarantee that the visa will be issued—meeting the bond requirement is necessary but not sufficient for visa approval.

5. Required ports of entry

• As a condition of the bond, all visa holders who have posted a visa bond must enter and exit the United States through the designated ports of entry listed below. Not doing this might lead to a denied entry or a departure that is not properly recorded:

-Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)

-John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

-Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
