IRCC approves 4 new English language tests for Student Direct Stream (SDS)!

The newly eligible tests are:

Now, what is the SDS?
The SDS offers expedited processing of study permits for students from specific countries. Eligible students are legal residents of: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, or Vietnam.

Studying in Canada in 2023? How to find part-time work as an international student?

If an international student’s program of study meets the necessary length and certification requirements, there are still some steps to take before being able to work as an international student in Canada.

First, those who wish to work require a Social Insurance Number (SIN), a unique nine-digit number assigned by Service Canada. It allows the government to track employment history in Canada and ensure that people are paying the correct level of income tax, as well as track hours worked. Everyone who works in Canada must have one, whether they are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a temporary resident.

International students must also wait until their program of study has started before being eligible to work. If they arrive in the summer before their program starts, they cannot work until their first class in September.

While waiting, they can use the time to find accommodation, go over their resumes (CVs) and think about how much time to spend working while balancing a course load and their health.

Off campus, most job hunting is done online. Canada’s JobBank typically lists part-time, positions that are suited for international students. LinkedIn and Indeed are both popular websites for job seekers in Canada. There are several job websites in Canada to help start your search. Some of the most popular include:

How much are international students paid?

-International students may work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and full-time during scheduled academic breaks like reading weeks or over the summer holidays, provided they will return to full-time studies.
-All Canadian provinces have a minimum wage and international students should expect to make this as a minimum, per-hour rate. Anything above it is up to their employer.

Levels of Education:

In general, the education system, whether it be public or private, is divided into three levels:

-Primary
-Secondary
-Post-secondary

Primary education, also known as elementary school, is from kindergarten or Grade 1 (ages six to seven) and runs through to Grade 8 (ages 13 to 14). The school year is usually between the months of September and June.

Secondary education, also known as high school, runs from Grade 9 (ages 14 to 15) to Grade 12 (ages 17 to 18). In Quebec, students attend high school until the age of 16. They may then continue to CEGEP, which is a two-year college where students may pursue a university preparation diploma or a vocational diploma.

Canada has a large network of post-secondary education, i.e., college and university. There are many internationally recognized university programs in urban and rural areas throughout the country. The college or university year usually runs from September to April or May and is comprised of two semesters or terms. In most cases, students would start a post-secondary education program in September.

Strike impacting Canada’s immigration system has ended!

The strike began on April 19. PSAC has instructed its members to return to work as of 9 AM Eastern Time this morning, or their next available shift.

PSAC, the union representing the federal employees who went on strike, says the tentative agreement includes higher wages which will close the gap with inflation, new and improved language relating to working from home, among other favorable provisions for its members. On its website, IRCC notes “There may still be some service impacts over the next few days and weeks as services return to full capacity…We will continue to update this page during the labor disruption to tell you how services are impacted.”

International Student দের জন্য অনেজ বড় খুশির একটা নিউজ। IRCC এর এই আপডেট অনুযায়ী, আগামী ১৫ই নভেম্বর, ২০২২ থেকে পার উইক ২০ ঘন্টার বেশী কাজ করা যাবে না, এই নিয়ম চেন্জ করা হবে এবং International Student রা অফ ক্যম্পাস এ ক্লাস চলাকালীন সময়ে যতো ঘন্টা ইচ্ছা কাজ করতে পারবেন। এই নিয়ম বহাল থাকবে, নভেম্বর ১৫, ২০২২ থেকে ৩১শে ডিসেম্বর ২০২৩ পর্যন্ত। অর্থাৎ, এক বছর এক মাস এর মতো। এটা ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্টুডেন্টদের জন্য আর্নিং এর অনেক বড় একটা সুযোগ৷

এখন এই সুবিধা কারা কারা পাবেন?

- যাদের স্টাডি পারমিট অলরেডি এপ্রুভ হয়েছে এবং বর্তমানে কানাডা তে আছে।
