On the 23rd death anniversary of our Founder, Late Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed (SIA), the members of Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates and Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Shriti Parishad visited his grave to pay tribute and offer prayers in his memory.

Resting beside SIA is his beloved wife, Late National Professor Dr. Sufia Ahmed, a distinguished scholar and educationist, whose own life was dedicated to knowledge and public service. We remembered them both and prayed for the departed souls with profound respect and gratitude.

SIA was an eminent lawyer, constitutionalist and statesman whose life was defined by an unwavering commitment to the rule of law, democratic values and public service. The institution he founded continues to be guided by the principles he upheld throughout his distinguished life and career: integrity, independence, professional excellence and service to justice.

As we honour the memory of SIA, we renew our commitment to carrying his vision and values forward.

May Allah grant them both the highest place in heaven. Ameen.

We are pleased to share that our Managing Partner, Mr. Syed Afzal Hasan Uddin, was invited to moderate the panel discussion on “Reforming the Arbitration Act 2001: The Enforcement” at the BIAC–UNDP programme titled “Strengthening Bangladesh’s Commercial Justice System: Commercial Courts Act 2026 and Reform of the Arbitration Act 2001”, held on 21 May 2026 at Hotel InterContinental, Dhaka.

The programme was graced by the presence of Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, as Chief Guest, and brought together distinguished members of the judiciary, policymakers, practitioners, arbitrators, business leaders and development partners.

The panel focused on a practical and important question: how can arbitration in Bangladesh be made more effective through timely, predictable and commercially meaningful enforcement of arbitral awards?

We thank BIAC and UNDP Bangladesh for organising this important discussion and for creating a platform for dialogue on arbitration reform and commercial justice in Bangladesh.
