The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) organized a workshop titled โ€œChanges in VAT, Tax, Customs Duty and Personal e-Return in FY2026-27โ€ on 27 August 2026, highlighting key changes introduced in the current fiscal yearโ€™s revenue management framework.

The workshop emphasized the importance of businesses effectively utilizing automated revenue management systems and digital services to ensure regulatory compliance. Key discussions included changes in VAT registration requirements, income tax, customs duty, e-return procedures and other revenue-related regulations.

Among the notable updates, registered businesses may now file consolidated VAT returns for three tax periods (quarterly) under Section 64 of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012. The session also highlighted amendments reducing the required deposit for appeals to 1% before the Appellate Tribunal and 2% before the High Court.

The initiative aimed to enhance awareness among businesses, strengthen compliance and facilitate a better understanding of the evolving tax and revenue management framework in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank, through FE Circular No. 31 dated 27 August 2026, has allowed Authorized Dealers (ADs) to issue guarantees/Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs) in foreign currency on behalf of resident entities in favour of relevant local project authorities or procuring entities against contracts/work orders awarded to foreign companies through international tenders.

The circular aims to facilitate the participation of foreign companies in projects in Bangladesh, allowing resident entities acting as strategic partners, local agents or authorized representatives to arrange the required guarantees/SBLCs, subject to specified conditions including valid commercial relationships, adequate collateral or counter-security, and appropriate reimbursement arrangements.

ADs must comply with applicable credit norms, risk management policies and prudential parameters. Claims upon invocation shall ordinarily be settled in Taka equivalent; however, settlement in foreign currency through the RTGS system may be made where required under the relevant tender or contract documents.
