DOUBLE DEMERITS START AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. ๐Ÿš”

Police officers will be deployed across the state to target speeding and dangerous driving as part of a major traffic operation to be carried out over the June long weekend.

As part of the King's Birthday road safety campaign, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers will be reinforcing the need to slow down when behind the wheel.

NSW Police will have a high visibility presence across the state for "Operation King's Birthday 2026", which will be conducted from 12.01am Friday 5 June 2026 to 11.59pm on Monday 8 June 2026.

The police operation will involve officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command with assistance from general duties and specialist police from all commands and districts in NSW.

Police will be targeting excessive speed, alcohol and drug driving, distractions including mobile phone use, fatigue, restraint and helmet offences.

Double demerits will be in place for speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt and helmet offences.

Short Guide to Bail in NSW: What You Need to Know About Bail Applications, Bail Conditions, and the Bail Act 2013

Key Points

Bail is governed by the Bail Act 2013 (NSW): Bail allows an accused person to be released from custody while the matter is ongoing, there is a presumption of innocence unless there are compelling and significant reasons to deny bail.

Two key tests determine bail eligibility: The unacceptable risk test assesses risks like failing to appear in court and committing further offences, while the show cause test applies to serious offences which requires the accused to prove why detention is not justified and shouldn't be kept in detention

In NSW, breaching bail means failing to follow your conditions. Breaching bail conditions has severe consequences: Non-compliance can lead to arrest, varied conditions, or revocation of bail, with penalties including imprisonment or fines up to $3,300.

Legal representation with an experienced Bail Lawyer is crucial for bail applications: A Bail lawyer can navigate the Bail Act 2013 (NSW), advocate and argue in Court against detention, which is essential because there is no automatic right to bail.

A Bail Lawyer can significantly improve the chances of a successful bail outcome.

Roundabouts, who gives way? ๐Ÿš˜

Do you only need to give way to vehicles on your right at a roundabout?

No, you actually need to give way to any vehicle already in the roundabout, irrespective of whether they're entering on your left, right or directly opposite you ๐Ÿš—

Slow down and be aware of all vehicles in the roundabout before entering to avoid an accident ๐Ÿ
